Does your car take a Performace hit...
Does your car take a noticeable Performance hit with a passenger?

Never noticed one. My girlfriend only weighs 120 and I never really push it too much with her in the car. I would never take her with me down a dragstrip or on a track day.

OP, more weight = lower performance. It's physics.

My lap times on a 2 miles track would be 1-2 seconds faster. However, the balance of the car is not as good on corners without a passenger.

I had a passenger in my car for a track day session a few weeks ago that weighed probably around 300lbs and I could tell a noticeable difference in the corners and braking. I couldn't really notice is on the straights.

The old rule of thumb about weight used to be (might still) be a 10 HP loss for every extra 100 lbs.

You won't notice it in day to day driving, but if you are at the track in any capacity, track day, autocross, drag racing you will be slower with the extra weight. The possible exception to this rule would be for example a truck with very little weight over the rear wheels causing traction issues.

Well, a gallon of gas weighs 6lbs. So, your 120lb girlfriend is essentially a full tank of gas.
Yes, that makes a difference. However, not as big as you might think. An additional 120lbs will add 0.1 second to a typical 1/4 mile time. But, remember that 1/4 mile times are more about using HP to get weight moving - i.e.: from a standstill at 0mph up to 120mph. You're road racing, I'm guessing. That's more about going from 80mph to 130mph (straight speeds). That kind of accel is far less about weight, and more about overcoming wind resistance. TLDR - unless you can run consistent laps within 0.5 seconds of each other, you won't notice much difference with or without a passenger. |

I'd have her jump on a scale before and after to log some performance data.
