Would this be covered under warranty? (Steering wheel)
It looks like for whatever reason, the top of my steering wheel is starting to peel. Would the dealer replace this?
Thanks! |

Do you drive with one hand in the same spot all the time? You need to move your hands around a bit more...

dealers like this bother me. they get paid for the repair, they charge it to warranty work where gm pays for it. It's the same as if they charged you for it and you paid for it. it's just lazy. |

A dealer should want to do this. There are huge safeguards in the industry against the dealer claiming to do warranty and then not doing it and collecting the money. It can literally get him thrown off of the program where he can make any decisions at all, and has to phone in every situation that he comes across, to be taken off of "self authorization" via manufacturer is one of the horrific things a dealer fears, so therefore they're very careful about doing the warranty work And not just charging for it. And if they do participate in fraud, then they get put on a watchlist at GM, which is very invasive. They usually get a in person warranty audit once or twice a year where every repair is pulled/printed and looked at , and in many cases the customer called, or the car brought back in and inspected .It can take a couple weeks, With a GM audit person sitting right at your desk…
The steering wheel should be warranted. Even if your hands did it, it's a product defect .So should the door sill mentioned above.

Should be covered. Usually items like this and other leather items that come in contact with the body and cause wear are covered once. Most of the leather issues we see are from larger people sliding into seats or lotion on hands and arms is another that causes leather to peel and separate. If it's from one of those things most likely they will not cover it a second time.

Absolutely covered. The "SS" badge at the bottom of my steering wheel peeled, and the dealer replaced it. I had a 2005 GTO whose steering wheel came with a weird crease in the leather, and the dealer gave me a new wheel. There should be no reason the dealer wouldn't help you.

Fully agree, I have had many cars do this
I have had 50 cars in my life and due to this same kind of issue, I learned to adjust where I hold the wheel. If you use the same spot all the time, on just about any material its going to wear, fade, leave a mark.
Had two wheels replaced in various cars for just this reason, now I am more careful. Just go rid of a Jeep with under 12,000 miles on it and it was showed wear spots at 9 and 2 positions. |
