I have experienced this effect in sedans with only the back windows down, but it's easily resolved by lowering the front windows.

I've owned a 1997 Camaro, 2000 Corvette, and 2003 Cobra, and have NEVER experienced wind buffeting with the windows down.

Are there any good solutions to this problem? I don't have a sunroof to open so that's not an option.

No..not me. One window all the way up and one down yes. Both down...not at all.

so it sounds like where your head is in relation to the window really matters, because the shape and size of the car and the speeds are all basically the same and unless people are just flat out lying, the only variable is seat/head position (aside from sunroofs, which I'd assume we'd all assuming is closed if equipped since the OP didn't mention having one open).

My understanding is that many cars modern cars have this issue because aerodynamics have improved so much that when the window is opened it presents interference in the...

oh here, read this:

basically it happens more now "because racecar".

I had obnoxious buffeting in my Golf R, but I have not once had this issue in my 1LE. I drive with my driver window down and the passenger up all the time since my son is in the back seat and I don't want him getting cold.

Maybe, but I'd guess it's local wind conditions. I get much more buffeting with side winds, but on a calm day it's not an issue besides the seatbelts flapping around.

There’s been several threads on this forum about this problem. One of them has a great scientific explanation. And yes all new aerodynamic cars will have this effect with the right conditions.

I’ve felt it , and it’s odd because the windows are tiny in the 6th gen. I have gone way faster in my 4th gen with the t tops off and didn’t feel anything close to it, maybe because the windows are so big in comparison.

Yep, definitely happens with driver window down, but can't recall if it does with 2 down.

Yes it's called Helmhotz resonance and is the exact same physics as when you blow over the top of a beer bottle.

The bigger the volume, the lower the resonant frequency...

Did you roll the windows all the way down? I don't have that problem if they're BOTH are ALL the way down.

It's gets pretty bad at highway speeds. Not sure why they cannot make a vent to relieve the back glass pressure and exhaust it out the rear quarters. it would make the ride so much more enjoyable to be able to ride at 70 with the windows down.

Bumping an old thread. This issue is extremely annoying for me on the track. I get up to 140 mph with windows down (required by track rules, ARGH) and the buffeting is extreme. Has anyone come up with a solution (even if tacky) to mitigate this? Maybe some of those rain deflectors would help me at the track?

I don't know of any car that doesn't do that... My girlfriends Mazda 3 does it, my 2018 Camry does it and my friends Tundra as well. Plus any other car I can think of, I always have to crack a second window to remove the wind buffeting.

Never for me even on the highway. Don't know why. My wrangler though.... holy shit. It felt like my ear drums were pulsating. It's usually caused by variations in pressure, which is why opening the back windows slightly as well gets rid of. But that's a moot point for us LOLOL.

Still, opening both windows should help.
