Missed shift 2-3

Anyone else missing 3rd when shifting aggressive? I used to shift super fast on an old fox body. Not sure why I can’t get it right anymore.

Did you go into 5th instead? I had a fox 5 speed with a B&M shifter. To me the fox seemed to have a shorter throw. Everyone seems to tout these M6's but I'm not sure they shift any faster then an old Muncie with a Hurst shifter. The M6 seems less smoother than the old 4 speeds, but I haven't driven one on a regular bases in 15 years. Clearly the M6 is stronger, except maybe the "rock crusher" Muncie. It would be interesting to see so more old timers opinions on what they think.

I do not miss - rarely ever. I am damn good at the no lift now also.

My one trick to shifting well is to never skip gears under normal driving. Then the muscle memory will take over.

Smack dab between third and fifth, I felt terrible! I would agree with that, those older transmissions were smoother but less robust. Still though, I’m going to go with, it not you girl, it’s me....

I felt awkward shifting mine until my first track day. The repetition of shifting quickly while wide open really built a lot of confidence.

I haven’t had issues and the 1LE transmission is the best I’ve experienced in stock form. I’ve had issues when down shifting (not machine, but driver issue), but glad it didn’t go into gear on the freeway.

Open hand (don't grip the shifter), push straight forward

Everyone misses occasionally

The T6060 is definitely different than a T56.

Breaking it in, I HATED the tranny and the clutch. I was constantly missing gears plus the clutch disengagement/engagement seemed light and all over the board.

Daddy got used to it and it got used to me.
I still occasionally miss when I'm cruising and not paying attention.
I haven't missed yet when it's time to get busy though and I'm digging this clutch now that it disengages right at the top of the pedal.

I practiced shifting fast while cruising to get the feel for it while I was still breaking it in.

Its your technique. Try pushing the shifter forward (open handed) and not trying to direct it into gear by holding it. Let the centering spring do its job. I guarantee you will never miss the 2-3 again.

cupping the shifter or holding it in your fist and trying to move it in the direction is the problem. You should be just pushing it straight forward with the ball of your hand. Nothing more.

Exactly, as others have reaffirmed here as well.

However, missing third gear used to happen to me all the time on my POS 2007 Ford Mustang GT with its whopping 300hp and shitty gearbox that I always hit the rev limiter with when I was trying to show off.

On my Gen5 and Gen6 M6's I never had that problem. If you are a handgun shooter the comparison is like anticipating the bang and recoil with the excess tension in your finger which should be disconnected from your hand grip pulling the shots down or to either side when the gun goes bang. Relaxation under pressure is one of life's biggest secrets. Master this simple concept and it will take you far young Jedi...

+1, open palm behind shifter while pushing forward for the 2-3 shift.

This is the timeless guide to performance shifting by the hall of fame Z06 drag racer Ranger.

https://www.rangeracceleration.com/I..._Shifting.html

Quote:
1st-to-2d Shift
Pull the shifter straight back; remember cupped fingers and no thumb.

2d-to-3d Shift
Push the shifter toward the radio; remember heel of the hand and no thumb. This will allow the shifter’s strong centering device to find the 3d-gear shift gate.

3d-to-4th Shift
Pull the shifter straight back; remember cupped fingers and no thumb, same as the 1st-to-2d.

I haven't had the balls to try the no lift shift for fear of hitting the rev limiter. What's your guys method? I don't want to damage anything, but am curious.

if you think the 6spd in the camaro is bad try the 7 spd in the vette. My z06 is a pain to shift fast compared to the camaros
