Tire help

Thanks for advice in advance. My 18 zl1 is doing 670 rwhp now and I’m needing tires desperately. I talked to my local performance shop that did work and they said I can’t just put dr’s on back. I’m wanting to keep stock rims and was wanting to do Mickey Thompson’s. But was told won’t work. Any advice? There advice was going to Toyo’s all the way around

Take the wheels off and take to another shop.

Guys have been running DRs in the rear with OEM fronts for decades...you will be fine...Unless you get caught in the rain.

That’s kinda what I was thinking what size would y’all recommend since apparently I can’t trust what that shop says

The only thing I can say from a personal note is... I was told when I swap mine, it could throw a code due to the change in how tall my DRs are compared to the stock ones. So the computer would think something is wrong with the difference between the two. Thus, I have two tunes and load them when I put the proper wheels on.

Its all about wording I guess. Maybe that's what he was talking about, but didn't put it in a way for the OP to understand? People saying stuff "wont work" without the explanation can cause confusion.

*Sidenote: I'm pushing 800rwhp so not sure if all that comes into play either but I was still told what's seen above as the reason for the two tunes. Plenty of pics of the DR setup on my Instagram: Bianca_ZL1

drag radials rear and stock tires front is fine. They are possibly thinking about the known bad combo of mixing bias ply & radials. I have run rear bias ply like ET streets and front radials too with no issues. Get a drag radial like an NT05 or Mickey Thompson SS and you will be fine.

do an nt05r in the back and nt05 in the front. problem with just doing just a radial in the rear is the difference in sidewall stiffness with the front stock goodyears(radials being soft goodyears being hard); making the car feel loose or unstable at higher speeds. tons of threads on the forums if you look it up

The sidewall thing is true to a point but it mostly has to do with air pressure in the rear tires being too low compared to the front tires.

Puting DRs in the back and keep stock fronts is more common than not. You should have no problem unless the size is dramatically different from the stock size (maybe).

Put on the Toyo R888r's and don't look back. I promise you'll be satisfied.

How many heat cycles do the toyo's need to grip. I put r888rs yesterday and I'm pegged at the limiter anything below 70 at 770tq

I did a half mile event with an nt05r in the rear. First at 35 psi then again at 26 and the car was all over the place for both @156mph on my last bolt on car. The lower psi felt better but I wouldn't do it again
