I operate top only while engine running

Why give me a button on my remote

Good question! I think if it is an auto that allows you to drop the top after remote start, but with a manual that of course is not an option, but they wanted to reduce cost on keyfobs and make them more "universal"?
Unless yours is an auto????

No idea. If I drop my top I am having a REALLY bad day! LOL!!!!

You ain't kidding!

Mine is a manual, and I bet you are right. Remote start then top down.

You press the Door Unlock button and then the Top Down button to put the top down. The engine doesn’t need to be running. You can put the top up from the visor control without the engine running too. The top draws a fair bit of power so the computer limits how many times you can operate the top without starting the engine. If I need to operate the top but not move the car then I don’t usually start the engine.

I've seen posts like yours alluding to the 'only open the top with engine running' stance, but it's now seemingly coming out that there is no specific stance from GM on that. Do you have an excplicit statement in your manual somewhere that says this?

The closest that seems to have been found so far is this statement from the manual: "Do not operate the convertible top multiple times in a short period of time without starting the engine to avoid draining the vehicle battery."

For 2020, that is on Page 34 of the manual. It may be on different pages for other years. Curious what you're drawing the reason for your post from...

I was going on the other posts also. And read what you posted in the book. Yes i read my owner's manuals. I do skip some sections but I read most of it.

I always start it before operating the top. It has to draw a ton of current to lower the top.

Howdy, neighbor.

I honestly believe this is one of the biggest reasons that vehicles come with top down and window down options on the remotes, but never top up or window up... People would just "play" with the features and could damage the battery or screw up the electronics.
