AFM delete
Why does everyone always say to get flash and delete the AFM, is there some kind of benefit to deleting an active fuel management? It seems like its just better gas mileage when I'm cruising and won't take much affect when im pushing my car when I want.

Some claim they can feel it turn cylinders off and on, I can't in my car. I agree I get better mpg then my V6 and the power is a stomp away.

Bottom line if it doesn't bother you in any way then don't delete it

I feel the ever so slightest "blurp" when it goes from V8 to 4-cylinder, but absolutely nothing when you need the power and hit the gas from 4-cylinder to V8. Immediately gives you all the power you need.
It would just be nice if Chevy included a AFM disable option in the menu, if you didn't want it. |

Some people also think that the AFM is prone to failure.
There were a few instances the previous gen engines but more often those engines used a lot of oil. Honestly, I think the issue was a bit blown out of proportion. I have never heard of any problems with the 5th gen engines. (Correct me if I am wrong.) |

My shudder happened when in 4 cylinder mode, I had already paid for a flush and wasn't interested in paying out of pocket for more flushes or an OEM torque converter so asked my tuner to turn off AFM. Haven't had a shudder since and can save up for an aftermarket torque converter if need be.

Some of us simply don't trust AFM as a technology:
- it's hardwired to the same 4 cylinders, which may impact wear uniformity; - switching between V8/V6 and V4 modes is done via valves that can creak or whine; - the A8 (8L45 and 8L90) trans is tuned differently in DoD (AFM enabled) mode, allowing much more torque converter slip that then triggered the shudder issue much sooner and more readily for many All these risks for a 1-1.5 mpg gain. The successor to this technology, DFM is more advanced, but the Camaro did not receive it, and you know how it is with complexity in general, the higher it gets for a component, the more prone it is to fail.

Some people feel the AFM contributed to the shudder in the A8. I read one mechanic who said he found, especially in the 5.3, that the disabled cylinders don't always get sufficient lubrication and have more wear. That may be the cause of the increased oil usage we hear about. That happened to the 5.3 we had in a GMC Envoy. Extra oil usage and the failure of two of the "special" lifters.

AFM is the devils work....I hate it with a passion. Mine is noisey as hell and as others have said there are concerns over the uneven wear and tear on cylinders.

I never noticed it on my truck until it got over 130,000 miles on it. Now I can hear it and it is annoying. I am pretty sure the muffler is on borrowed time. My camaro I don’t notice it but it is new

I drove a CTF Pontiac G8 to Florida many years ago. It was not commercial.
Gen5 Camaros had 5 flex couplings (if I recall correctly, but it was a lot of flex couplings) in the exhaust in an attempt to quell the vibrations. It’s certainly better in other applications. My LaCrosse goes into 3 cylinder mode and it’s invisible.

Ok...if this is a stupid question please let me know, after you guys answer it of course . 2019 a10 ZLE-do I have AFM or no? I have never felt it and really haven’t found a straight answer. Maybe it just switches that good that I don’t notice?
