C8’s LT2 + Camaro = Z/28 in 2023

Watch it happen, in the last year of the Gen6 Camaro - but after the C8 ZR1 is introduced.

Hey, it’s a rumor worth starting...

What they need to do is take the 6.6 liter from the trucks and make it a high RPM screamer. If they can get 495 hp out of the base LT2, I bet they could get around 550 out of a high output 6.6 liter.

Nobody liked the price point of the last z28. Not sure why they would think repeating the formula would be good. The money can be better spent on things other than just a bigger v8.

I'd like to see the z28 improve weak points in Camaro performance. Namely, weight. Without making it a rattle box and without looking like the car was stolen and in the middle of getting stripped.

That would be something worth paying a premium for. Not another overpowered, uncomfortable track car.

I still say a Z/28 is coming in the 6th gen, why you ask, if it does not it will be the first gen with out a Z28 in it, so at some point look for it to come out.

No way are they going to bring out a Z/28 making ONLY 495.
The last Z made 505, so any new one has to beat it..... .and I'm sure they "could" make a small change or two to get more from that engine, but let's be real......if they could do that, then the base Vette and base Camaro would have been different.

Really need to just let this wishful thinking of a future Z/28 go. The bar was just reset last night and not only for gm, but Ford and Dodge as well.

What about the LT5?GM develops this motor and put its in the ZR1 for only one year?i don't think so...I believe you well see that motor in the Camaro very soon and it might be as soon as this year.It might not be until a midyear release but i do see it coming to a Camaro near you.Now do they call it a Z/28 or not is the real question.Plus with the GT500 coming out this year to, put the 750hp LT5 into the Camaro makes even more sense.

Sorry to be a debbie downer but an LT2 Z/28 makes no sense anymore. After the 5th gen car put the Z/28 name on a pedestal as the holy grail of camaro performance a 495HP V-8 wouldn't cut it. To quote Blaq and hotlap as they like to say about the GT350R- it's a all out track car that can't beat a GT car. That is what a Z/28 with the LT2 would be. It wouldn't beat the ZL1 and wouldn't come close to the ZLE.

Only way a Z/28 happens in the 6th gen is if GM decides to say F-it with all the heritage BS they spewed about the 5th gen car and put the LT5 in it.

The best Camaro Z/28 already exists, in the spirit of the first Z/28 homologated for the original Trans Am series. Chevy just misnamed it the 1SS 1LE.

Agree. An LT2 powered Z28 would be a joke - at least if they still want to claim it's the top dog. In the 4th gen cars it certainly wasn't the top dog so maybe they'll break with what they did in the 5th gen.

Let's assume that GM is shelving the Gen 7. They could, with much less R&D and capital (no plant retooling for new body and chassis etc.) keep the Alpha Gen 6 going for 10 years but put enough resources to design an LT5 based gen 6, call it whatever, but it would be a beast.
