How long should warranty work take before you get mad?

Hi all. First post. I have a 2017 SS 1le with a sagging headliner. There is a service bulliten about the problem. I brought the car to my local Chevy dealer to get it fixed under warranty. It has been... a while. I don't think it is productive to bad-mouth someone publicly until you are sure you are in the right. How long is an acceptable time for a service center to have your car? I have always done my own work, so I honestly don't know. I'm starting to get a bit irked.

I've had mine into a few different dealers for service over the years. They always provided a loaner car if they kept mine and the service advisor normally contacted me with daily updates. If they were waiting for parts then they would give me an estimated date for the parts to arrive and service to be completed. I always had the service advisor's card and contact information and could call in if I had questions.

In my opinion "too long" would be a day or two longer than they estimated the repair time. It sounds like the first step is to contact them and ask for a status update if they haven't provided one recently. Or you have the option to stop by the dealership to see what is happening with the car. Hopefully there is a reasonable explanation for the delay.

Thanks for the reply. I was initially told it might take "A few days". My car has been in their shop for two weeks as of Friday. Getting information from them is like pulling teeth.

My dealer here in Michigan told me at least a week, since they would have to order a new windshield. I said screw it and took some rubber trim and fabbed up my own little fix

I've learned that whenever you go to a dealer and tell them that this is your second car and not a daily driver they tend to take a little more time and fix the cars that come in with people in a hurry to get them fixed since they are losing days at work.

So normally when I being in my Camaro I tell them that I need the car as soon as possible to go back to work.

In hindsight, I should have stuck some weatherstripping along the edge and called it quits. Lesson learned. I'll do all my own service from here on out.
