2023 1SS vs 2023 Kia Stinger GT2

The GT2 is pretty quick for a Turbo V6 AWD sedan. Not quick enough, but still quick. He tried and had several chances, always fell short.

My overall concern would be longevity. I don't see them as cars that won't fail given the company's reputation with the Theta II engines. Maybe this would be an exception given the priority put on performance.

But they probably have a lot more useful storage in the cabin. The 6th gen gets very low marks for useful interior storage.

That said, I am happy with the interior styling on the SS, it combines retro and modern in a clean way. It doesn't look like a table on the dash.

Thoughts?

I was considering a Kia Stinger GT2 when I was also looking at the Camaro SS, the Stinger would have become my daily driver (and I thought the Camaro likely would as well but it hasn't yet at 3 years old).

I have 4 Hyundai's and love them, they have been great cars (2 have the Theta II engine) I ultimately went with my 2020 Camaro 2SS as it cost less, had better performance, was a true American Muscle Car and I just thought had better overall appeal... Been very happy with my decision... But I would certainly consider a Stinger GT2 as I think they are nice looking cars and have very good performance for a Sedan...

I considered Stinger GT as a daily. However with the second kid on the way and MN weather here, switched to something with higher ground clearance. I wouldn’t worry about their reliability since Kia backs it up with 100,000 mile 10 year warranty. With just a tune and E85, those cars gain good amount of power. They have decent awd system.

Coming from a 2011 Subaru Legacy, I thought I'd be upgrading to a new sedan.
I looked at, didn't really consider, the Stinger. The overall styling just doesn't do it for me. There are moments when I think "that's a decent looking car" but not when I stare at it for more than a minute.
I also looked at and was considering it's fraternal twin Genesis G70. I was comparing it against a Cadillac CT5 V series (NOT Blackwing). I was having a hard time between them. Both were within my means, but more than I wanted to spend.
Then my wife got a wild hair and said let's go look at Challengers. That ultimately evolved into me buying a 2SS.

Wow, that did evolve to land on a 2SS! Massive credit to your wife.

So, I had a 2018 AWD GT2 Stinger for 2 years. I loved how it looked and the performance was great. It was a beautiful car and was always turning heads and constantly being asked what it was. It ultimately didn't have enough of what I wanted in being agile. I got a Hyundai Veloster N and that definitely scratched that itch for me. Well, I recently sold that and picked up a 23 2ss 1le because I did miss some creature comforts from the Stinger. All 3 cars I had, Stinger, Veloster N, and the Camaro have been great cars! They just kind of had a different purpose. I think the Camaro is perfect for what I want now. I had the stinger on a piggyback tune and it was making pretty respectable power. It launched pretty hard and I was definitely a red light racer. The times I took it on some twisty roads is when it showed it's weaknesses for me. Now, it is a GT car, not meant to do the twisty roads but it was ok. It also had crazy storage with the hatch and rear seats down.

I have a buddy that was about to go the Kia route. I also have a neighbor that works at the dealership that sells both (Kia and Chevrolet). When we walked out back to look at the ever-growing pile of dead Kia engines, he went with something else.

Most score the Stinger at 80 on reliability which is just average. My experience with Hyundai/Kia is mixed. Son has a 2019 Tucson w/70K miles and it’s been flawless. We had a 2020 Palisade and we lemoned it after 3 months after being at the dealer for 45 of its first 90 days.

Fun fact - I was running in an HPDE when Ezra Dyer crashed Motor Trends Stinger at VIR.

I owned a 2020 Stinger GT2 AWD for about a year and then traded it in for a used 2017 Camaro 2SS.

The Stinger is a beautiful car. Really looks good. Interior is excellent. The AWD system also works great. Car is also very fast on the take off and mid range. Turbos fall flat on the top end however. Car is packed with features. I never had issues with the engine and from being very active on the Stinger forums most people were not having engine problems. But there were quite a lot of failing transmissions and torque coverters. I trade my car in right about the time I started noticing dripping transmission fluid between the engine and trans bell housing. So my trans was leaking or torque converter was on the way out.

2017 Camaro 2SS has been fantastic. There is nothing like a V8. NOTHING. And the LT1 is amazing. Pulls hard all the way to redline. Does even better with simple mods like E85 and headers. Transmissions had problems early on but that has largely been fixed. And my Camaro has everything I wanted and nothing extra that I either didn't need or never really used. AWD would be nice but I have driven my car in 6 inches of snow with all-season DW06+'s and the Camaro did great.

The stinger does have a lot more cargo space for sure. I was able to fit a set of C6 Corvette wide body wheels in the back with the seats down. That's two 275/35-18's and two 325/30-19's. The just barely fit but they did fit.

Stinger has nice seats but I found that I was never completely comfortable in them. The bolsters were a little bit too tight for me. Camaro 2SS seats are pretty much perfect.

Both are excellent cars for the most part. But I am glad I have my Camaro.

Ok my KIA OPTIMA was an absolute POS. ALOT of road noise and Over the couple of years that I had it, I REPLACED THREE engines only ONE of which KIA paid for. These engine failures were proven to have been caused by poor quality control problems in their engine assembly plant. They had a recall program and then did everything possible to say that the engine failures were caused by OWNER negligence. Just GOOGLE this you will see HUNDREDS of horror stories.

Their sales pitch is you get alot of VALUE for your money which is BS. They used materials that LOOKED good but were poor quality.. Things like the interior pieces and the plastics they used were horrendous. They do MISERABLE on most quality satisfaction surveys.

Bottom line is you couldnt GIVE me one of them. You put a DRESS on a PIG and ultimately you still have a PIG.
