I bought the Amazon one as well. Haven't been able to install it yet without a lift though. Got under the car last time it was on jack stands, but the locking clip of the factory plug is on the top side of mine for some reason?!? Couldn't comfortably fit my big body under the car and get my fat fingers up to the top of the clip FML.

Mine was like this too. Gave up on it for the time being. I've mostly learned to avoid it, but it gets me every once in a while and REALLY pisses me off.

You can always go back into 2nd after it tries to force you into 4th. It's basically going from 1st to 4th don't let the clutch out and then go into 2nd and clutch out. I wish GM would just get rid of the feature and let me shift when I want to it's why I bought a stick.

Mine did it for free in PA. I had a faulty one and got a new one. Since I was in the middle of a move I didn't get it installed in PA. I got to KS and the local dealer said "we cant install a part that will bypass a safety feature" I was like, yeah its not a safety feature. Thinking about it, I still need to get it installed.

I love that GM put this skip shift technology in our cars. What a brilliant way to save us money on the gas guzzler tax! Especially since there's such a cheap solution to get rid of it. Win win if you ask me.

22 mph in first, no matter how hard you’re on the gas, will get you by the skip-shift nonsense every time.

It has nothing to do with safety and everything to do with the federal law prohibiting new-car dealers from modifying or disabling OEM emissions and fuel economy equipment on vehicles. The fines can be huge.

I got around the skip shift a slightly different way. I picked up a Diablo 50 state legal tuner unit and included there is a way to reprogram the car's computer to ignore the skip shift. It's completely transparent... plus I got a tune out of it, of course!

wiggle the lever in neutral for a second and then it will let you shift into second.

It's so easy to get around the skip shift I don't get how people haven't figured it out.

Said it for years, totally unnecessary if you learn to shift just a bit differently. 1st if accelerating hard and getting the RPMs up you won’t get gated. If just driving normally all you have to do is flip the lever into the neutral gate with a flip to the right. Then pull back to the left and down to second. Takes a wee bit of practice but it becomes 2nd nature. I rarely got the gate driving years worth of a Camaros and Corvettes.

Of course if you rather hard wire it out or risk you warranty by recalibration get it out that is much more straightforward shifting.

I have had the skip shift eliminator in my glovebox since 2 weeks after i bought her... never installed it.... revving above 2500 rpm in 1st (who doesnt like that?) will by pass the skip shift and in town i just start off in second gear...problem solved. It has caught me out a couple of times when trying to short shift into second while making a turn but i just go for third when it happens. it's really not that big a deal and to be honest after my ordeal with my windows operation i am hesitant to plug anything aftermarket into the wiring harness.
