Single tip exhaust: least amount of bends = exit out left or right side
Hello everyone,
This is kind of a weird question i know. For stock or aftermarket catbacks with dual/quad tips. From the downpipe there is just one tube and at some point around the rear axles it goes to i'm guessing an H-pipe or X-pipe split and going to the muffler or the two different tips right? what i want to know is right as the pipe splits from 1 to 2: Which piping has the least amount of bends or the straightest piping? the one leading to the driver side or the one leading to the passenger side? I thought i saw a pic or video showing that the catback was not perfectly symmetrical after it splits behind the H or X pipe so i wanted to ask.

I have the GM Performance Exhaust for my 2.0T (see picture below).
I'll have to look under my car but I believe the straight section is on the same side as the connection to the downpipe. |

There are some aftermarket catbacks that have equal bends after the split.
Check out this link to see some of the pictures: https://www.phastekperformance.com/2...ers-s/1518.htm |

it doesn't matter, even in the stock exhaust there is virtually no restriction. All the restriction is in the down pipe.

What kind of rear valance is that if you dont mind me asking? i've been looking for a rear valance/diffuser with a single exhaust cutout but all i see are duals. I still want a muffler coming out the back (sorry) and that valance in your pic looks better than anything i've seen so far.

This is the factory single tip valance. It has just been cut along the seam. Very nice and easy mod to do if your wanting that look.

Ahh thank you, the plastic did look like the stock-ish plastic to me. I think i'll do the same thing then.

Yeah, I think it looks good myself. I will do the same when I go single 3" all the way back.

Ohh nice. You thinking about modding the one you have or modding a premade one? or you gonna get the whole thing custom fabbed at a shop or doing it yourself? i was thinking about getting the Borla X midpipe from Phastek and modifying it slightly. It doesnt come with mufflers it looks like so i just need to get a muffler shop to modify the y-pipe, get rid of the opposite side piping and have them weld on whichever muffler i want.

Yeah I have thought about the Borla mid pipe, I just can't justify the price on it. Its just pipe, so it will be pretty cheap. What I will do is just have an exhaust shop do 3" right off the down pipe all the way back. Probably find a bullet type long resonator to throw in the straight section, and just cut my stock valance like above, and like here..

I'll try looking for a shop, but i'm just worried about finding one that does crappy welds. With a Borla X pipe at least they'll only end up messing up half of it...though with the rear valance trimmed up like that i hope that the bad welds in the back aren't too visible. Maybe I should try to petition zzp or mishimoto to come up with a single piping catback with a modular rear section? haha. Like a rear section that will allow us to pick from several different muffler styles that you can connect with a flange or v-band instead of a slip on crush pipe.
