Is it a pain in the ass to install this thing?

Does the system need to be drained in order to do the install? I could take a Harley Davidson apart with my eyes closed but when it comes to cars I’m still apprehensively learning.

Well, I finally got around to installing the ADM reservoir kit. Pretty happy with the final result. I had a few hurdles along the way, but none were major or too difficult to deal with.

I had to buy a 5/8” long aluminum spacer to get the bracket mounted where it should be on my car. Then I had an issue with coolant seeping from the upper port on the tank, which was being caused by a molding line where the hose connects. I sanded it smooth and also installed a different clamp, and it’s now good. I was initially using a spring clamp that didn’t apply much tension, so that may have been a factor. If I’d cranked down the supplied worm clamp, I don’t think it would have leaked.

It looks factory installed and definitely self-bleeds the system. It’s the highest point in the intercooler circuit, which I don’t think is the case with some of the other tank kits out there. The only thing I don’t like is the fact that it’s above the header. Seems like it could absorb heat there, but IAT2s look good so far.

Future kits - spacer added

We will add this spacer to all future kits. This is the first we have seen of this but are taking action.

Thanks
Andy

You’ll lose some coolant when you disconnect the hose on the pump. But no need to drain the system. You’ll definitely want to pick up some coolant for the install though.

That’s good to hear. It was just a simple 5/8” long, 3/4” diameter aluminum spacer with a 1/4” hole. Seemed to be about perfect for my car.

Can someone explain me why is this needed?

I supposed the left coolant reservoir was connected to the supercharger intercoolers too, as with the radiators.

Sorry, no supercharger culture here in Spain, just turbo...

I’m pretty sure it’s been explained somewhere in this thread, but no, there is no factory coolant reservoir for the intercooler circuit on the ZL1. It is not connected to the engine cooling system. As there is no reservoir, the fluid cannot be checked or topped off without special vacuum filling tools — and these cars have been known to get air in the system. Adding a reservoir with its level above the rest of the system makes it self-bleeding. So no more cavitation issues, and an easy way to top the fluid off.

What type of coolant do you boys recommend? I don’t even know what brand comes with the car.

This sealed the deal for me. Great explanation. Thank you.

Do I need to type anything in the notes when I order to get the spacer needed? I know I can just run to the hardware store and get it but I’d rather not deal with humans in person unless I absolutely need to. Hahahaha
