GM determined that there's no real need to have 70+ PSI of oil while you're cruising on the highway, but if you put the engine under a load, the solenoid will move the internal "parts" of the oil pump to make it start producing higher pressure.
As always, increased complexity increases potential for problems. Is the housing cracking or other parts?

It's kind of an ingenious design, but the earlier versions of it were prone to cracking as we all know. I do kind of wish they had just put in a regular pump, but, EPA........
Yeah the same regulations that brought you wonderful innovations such as AFM

Did you get a discount based on the oil pump issue?

There is a thread on a corvette forum with oil pump problems for the LT4.

Good to hear. At least now it’s been documented as a ‘potential’ issue with your specific car for warranty purposes. Let us know how it goes. May help some of us in the future.

Ideally they would replace the pump before it actually fails, it will be interesting to see how this plays out. There should be some threshold pressure below where they say it's cooked (e.g. 25 psi hot idle)

100% agree with this statement. I've been trending my oil pressure for the past 15K miles and it's never been below 27psi hot idle...EVER. That's why I have an alarm setup if my oil pressure is ever below 27 because that would be a significant change to the norm and indicate I have an issue starting. That's one thing I like about external gauges that can be handy instead of the silly dash gauge.

You won’t get screwed! You still have drivetrain warranty on your 2018 and if it fails they will replace it. I hope the best for you.

Just picked up the car.
They changed the oil in it and pushed it out the door.
no change, 21 PSI hot oil pressure at idle.
They said that GM low limit is 22 psi at 1000 Rpm, so im good to go.

I guess ill either sell it (because there is clearly nothing wrong with it) or drive it until it stops running.

Hmm... that’s too bad. I just tried to put myself in your shoes... Not certain what I’d do.

Could make some sarcastic license plate images to display your frustration.

Drive it till it dies nighttowl! That’s what I’m going to do with my 2017!
