Tire SIZE for 1/2 mile-19 vs 20's?
My 315/30/20 Toyo r888r are used up and contemplating what to put back on, thinking the same tire in a 325/30/20, but...
I've got 325/19's gysc's on the rear of my track set for road racing and I see Toyo makes that size in the r888r and knowing the gysc's won't get enough heat in them for the 1/2 mile event to have traction I'm wondering what a slightly shorter tire (3/4") over the 325 in a 19" will do if I use the r888r in a 325/19 at the 1/2 mile. They have better accel at the roadcourse, but will it actually lose mph in the 1/2 mile vs the taller 20's? Anyone with any expereince along this line? |

Its not gonna matter which one you choose. Make sure its the same height as stock.

Auto or Manual? Use a gearing calculator with the tire size factored in. I would try to maximize trap rpm/speed in a gear vs an extra shift in the 1/2 mile.

It's an auto and I let it do its thing and I understand upshifts are based on mph vs rpm so I'm not sure how to make a selection based on that.
After doing some research I've seen this question asked on the corvette forum and the consensus seemed to be if traction is not a factor, the shorter tire for the 1/4 mile quicker et and the taller tire for 1/2 mile mph. That seems to make sense. Thanks! |

I just recently purchased a ZL1 and plan to baseline my 1/2 mile speed in March 2021 before making any mods. But by then I will need tires and have been thinking about which tire would be best for the 1/2 mile. Sounds like from your post that the Toyo r888r hooks up pretty good? Do I need it for a stock car? Thanks.

A larger wheel/tire will ultimately give a faster overall speed.

I think the slightly taller 325/30/20 toyo r888r is going to be my choice.
If not ever having done it before then I’d suggest go have fun with the stock tires, but my experience is even the toyo’s spin at the line. You’ll have to get a feel on feathering the throttle to get better mph. |
