Black rims
Have any of you tried to paint or tint your rims? I have a white rs with black rally stripes and I think black rims would look boss but not wanting to spend a lot

Powder coat those puppies. I have a guy here in CA that's going to charge me $150 a wheel. He's picking the car up, and dropping it off when done. You can probably get it done cheaper if you dismount/mount the wheels yourself.

Powder coat is the route you want to go if you want it done right, typically it costs around $350-400 to do all four. You'll need to take your tires off and such.
If you don't want to spend a lot of money you can plastidip them. But to me it pays to just have it done right. The benefit of plastidip is it's temporary.

I plasti dipped mine as I am leasing and I change my mind every now and then. I'm buying wheels eventually so that's why I went the inexpensive route

plasti dip is the cheap route and believe me, you get what you pay for...
that's great if you plan on going back to plain. but if you're certain you want black wheels (which will be badass, you wont regret it) then powder coat is the way to go.

One problem with powder is you will still have to paint your center caps.
In my personal experience there's no real point in powder over paint. If you hit something powder will still chip (and in most cases peel up a lot quicker than paint). Anyone that preps the wheels well can make the paint stick just as good as powder AND without the orange peel powder tends to have. Just my personal experience with dozens of different painters and powdercoaters we've used through the business over the years... |

I also have used a lot of powder coders in the past on car parts and boat parts and find it to be much more strong than paint.

I can get a straight on picture later this evening if you like, but here are my wheels. The dealer sent the car over to a local guy that does some good work before they put it on the lot.
The wheels have been powder coated, center caps painted, and hand pinstriped.

Plastidip will cost you $30. Don't like it later? Peel it off. These held up great for me...

I used plasti dip on my Gen5 camaro and i took the wheels off and used about a can per rim. Took about 2 days to do all 4. The plasti dip never faded or peeled off and was perfect when i traded it in 2 years later. So if your gonna do it do it right and it will last. For my Gen6 i had the dealer powercoat them gloss black and it looks great. power coating is still your best option so long as you dont mind paying for it
