Wheel/tire size difference threshold to set off limp home mode?

What would happen if you had a 285 30 20 inch on one side of your rear axle and 305 30 20 inch on the other side? Will the few millimeter difference be enough to cause a problem with the differential? would it go into limp home mode has anyone experiment with this yet ? I ask because I have an extra 285 30 20 inch tire Mounted on an extra rim that I plan to take on longer trips and use in case of a nonrepairable flat was hoping I could just put it on front or rear positions of the car and go .. ideas?

Bad things, yes, yes. Don't mix rear sizes or you will do bad things to the diff.

It went into limp mode exactly because it is trying to protect itself.

So, since we have no spare, and assuming the inflation kit won’t fix a particular flat, one would have to carry 2 spare tires premounted on wheels - one for front and one for rear. Other great ideas?

Call roadside assistance, onstar, get AAA, a rider for towing on your insurance, or buy a car without a staggered wheel setup.

I think your chances are getting pretty small

1. That You will even get a flat tire
2. Fine u get a flat then your tire inflation kit will not fix it
3 See 1 and 2 then u have a spare but its only for front tire so its the rear tire
thats damaged.

I think by now u will have a better chance of winning Lotto than having all these things work against you

I know, right! Us poor poor ZL1 guys! I now also carry a tire repair kit, the plug type. Won’t even need to remove the tire from the car. Just pull out the nail/screw, plug it and off I go. Things get sucky for us if the tire is not repairable. Step 1: call tow truck. Step 2: car flat bedded to repair shop. Step 3: repair shop orders new tire because NOBODY stocks our sizes. Step 4: enjoy a 2days hotel stay! This is why I now carry a full size wheel/ tire combo. In the trunk for long distance treks. The joy of it all 😻
