In 2002 when I was 18 I bought a 1980 L82 Corvette. Thing was a nightmare with all the things that went wrong. The early 2000s Trans Ams seem to be in better condition overall but cost more. |

As an owner of a 2002 SLP SS 6MT bone stock, I love it. I have owned the car since 2007 and have never had a major mechanical issue. Yes the A/C went out and it needed a new compressor, but other then that, stay on top of the maintenance and you will be fine. Cheap V8 power and fun to drive.

That's pretty good! Compressor going out is expected on a car that old. Looking at Gateway Classic Car listings and some of them like rag tops are going for 26k for a late model 4th gen! Way overpriced and I wouldn't buy from them anyway. |

I've had a 4th gen for over 20 years, I still like mine and a select few friends cars but the love doesn't extend much past that. Majority of them out there are beat and absolutely trashed. Are there still nice ones? Sure, if you're willing to pay money for a nice one. Then again a decent mile run of the mill Z28 can be had for $10-12K. Less than $10K and the quality of car declines very quickly. They're fun cars with the right stuff done to them. In terms of after market they're like Fox Bodies, anything you want exists and they're also relatively cheap to modify. You can make them decent handling cars, Sam Strano who is on here had good luck racing and winning at different SCCA stuff in his time.
I own a third gen also, I really wouldn't mess with one unless that's what you really want. The prices for nice ones are coming up, but the TPI power trains, even the 350s, aren't going to feel like anything special if you've driven modern performance cars. They do handle really well with some basic upgrades, like surprisingly well

A buddy is selling his one owner blue z28 manual LT1. A few minor mods. Always garaged. Low miles. Hit me up if anybody is interested. He wants to get a Corvette. Northern CA.

For a cheap fun car with good power, why not? Though C5 Corvette would be a good choice as well.

It's like the whole M3 thing. M3 should really just be reserved for BMW M3, not Mazda3 or Model 3. It's not a telegraph where you get charged by letters, people. Just type the full thing.

The nice thing about Camaros is, other than the 1st gen which was basically 2 years and their prices are mostly made out of unobtanium now, every generation was produced long enough to have a lot of options in features and performance for reasonable prices. You can pretty much find exactly what you want from each generation.

Yes! 4th gens are so easy to work on (minus the 8th spark plug) a much better starting point than a 3rd gen if you want to build it up to be quick by modern standards, and while it's certainly not "modern" it's not a bad daily driver. The hatch style makes it easy to throw a bunch of stuff in, I personally love the look (but also it's the gen that I started to get into cars during, and nothing is as cool as the stuff from when you were a kid) and the monsoon sound system is still good by today's standards. A clean one isn't terribly expensive. I drove one for 7 years and I wish I hadn't gotten rid of it.
T-Tops are a must though! |

If I was going 4th Gen, it would be a trans am. just better over all looks imo. But im a 3rd Gen fan. If anything, LS swap 1 and call it good.

Nope. I had a 99 Z28 when I bought the 2017. I can count on no fingers the number of times I wanted to drive the 99 after that.

As a second car like you said? Hell yeah. They're cheap and easy to build and fix. My dad had a 1998 white lingenfelter and that thing was a rocket. Loved 'em ever since.
