Can you track car when it's on a train?

Has anyone found a way to track your car while it's on a train?

Only the order dealer can track (if they care/want to/know how) is how I understand it. You would need to have the rail car number at a minimum and probably a shipper ID as well.

Ya the information is very limited. I wish they would activate the On-Star once it's bayed waiting for a train. I'm trying to juggle the sale of one of my cars to pad my down payment. I don't want to apply for the loan as it is only good for a month. I think I'm good to go but you just don't know what delays the train ride will bring.

When dealer gets the title, you can go do your paperwork, only then can you get access to the vehicle info for OnStar to track car.

I tracked my car with OnStar from the factory all the way to the dealership. It was crazy to watch it move all over the midwest on the trip from Lansing to the local rail yard. It definitely wasn't a straight path.

How I called onstar with my paper work and my sales info and the vin and they told me the only way onstar can be activated is if someone physically pushes the button in the car. They 100% would not turn onstar on to let me track the car. How are people getting them to turn it on to allow car tracking? I asked the dealer and they said there is no way they can do it either through on star.

I read you have to get the GM App and you can activate it from there.

Ive tried that it says i can have limited access to the car but to track it and have full access I have to be in the car and press the button. I have no idea how these people are tracking their cars using onstar as every option i have tried tells me i have to be in the car and press the button. and obviously i cant do that if its in Michigan. would be interested in instructions on how to do this.

I never had to push the OnStar button. Mine worked as soon as I activated the myChevrolet app on my phone. I saw my car move from the factory to the dealer, then on the Plycar truck to me.

Same here, I got the app, went under the lower left tab (more) about two spots down it says vehicle locate, and I get this.

In my case I've completed all the paperwork for the car so it's showing status 6000 (delivered to customer) yet in reality, the car hasn't arrived at the dealer yet. The dealer confirmed they still need to process the OnStar registration on their side and once they do, I'll receive an email. I believe you need either this welcome email or push the OnStar button in car to activate the service to enable full tracking...
