https://gm-techlink.com/?p=7627 - would seem to indicate that PF63E is 22psi variety.
I guess what I heard was wrong, I stand corrected

Apparently from what I have read, the UPF64R had a high bypass valve psi rating yet again at 35psi (but haven’t verified that)

That part number is the UPF64R which I believe has a different bypass PSI than the PF64 and isn't compatible with our cars (LT1 engine)...

GM Parts Store is still showing the standard PF64 (part #12706595) for our cars (LT1 engines): https://www.gmpartsstore.com/oem-par...YtMmwtdjgtZ2Fz

I was looking at this and normally would totally agree I like to use the biggest filter possible - but...the clearance with the crossbar looks too tight. The engine and transmission move around a lot on tight corners and will snap back after hard braking so it makes me pause for track use. Normal driving I wouldn't be concerned. Pics were super helpful.

That brace is behind the filter, not beside it. The engine rocks around the crankshaft axis, so the filter will move left or right, but not back and forth. There's no clearance issue there. I've been running the 63 size filters for a long time now with no problems at all.

Latest factory filter after break in oil change. I drained only the filter in this pan. Lots of sparkles from the dirty side of the filter. Looks like its doing the job. I tried tearing the filter if you see a tear, filter did not tear on its own. Blue bits are from cutting open the can. Looks like it caught most metal bits and some gasket/plastic material looking at the pleats and the oil in the pan. The oil pan which had the oil from the sump did not show any noticeable sparkles. Did the factory break in. Kept lower gears and engine breaking for ring seal. No over 4k until 500 miles. No consumption after 700 miles, I'd say its going well and I'm ready to start opening up.

Appreciate your input here. Yesterday, my dealer sold me both the PF64 and UPF64R. I bought both with the plan of coming back home and going thru the forums to see if the "R" was recommended. I installed the original.

The part number for the UPF64R only shows me a 1.4L I4 Buick, a 1.5L Volt and a Malibu fitment, specifically saying it does not fit the Camaro. Judging from your picture, its construction is very different and bypass pressure could well be different, too.

The original that you installed is what I've been running without any issues.

Stick with the PF64, that is the proper one for your car.

Thread dissecting the UPF64R and PF64
https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/th...n-pics.259429/

I think the parts guy handed me both just because the part numbers were similar. I don't think he actually looked it up. It "fits" but doesn't meet specs.

Appears the UPF64R has a bypass of 36psi.
https://partshawk.com/acdelco-upf64r...il-filter.html

I will be returning it.

Per RockAuto, UPF64R should be compatible but I would not use that. The bypass is supposedly higher. If you're looking for a filter with higher efficiency, there are better options.

Best Filter

Well, I probably have used ALL of these that have been mentioned. The WIX WL10290XP is what I would recommend. You can get these for 12-13 dollars on AMAZON. When I COULDNT get this WIX filter I was using a MOBIL 1 M1-113A filter. I found out AFTER the fact however that the oil pressure relief MAY have be LOWER in reality than the recommend 22PSI number so I quit using these. Also quality MIGHT be suspect as two different suppliers had been making these for Mobil 1.

Here are SPECS below. Be cautious because SOME of the other WIX filters DO NOT have the properly rated bypass valve.

Product Specifications
Part Number: WL10290XP
UPC Number: 765809348523
Style: Spin-On Lube Filter
Service: Lube
Type: Full Flow
Media: Synthetic
Height: 3.45(88)*
Outer Diameter Top: 2.921(74)*
Outer Diameter Bottom: Closed:
Thread Size: 22X1.5 MM
By-Pass Valve Setting-PSI: 22
Anti-Drain Back Valve: Yes

Mobil 1 switched from Champ Labs (ACDelco OEM) to Mann-Hummel which also owns Wix. Bypass is usually specified in a range, so if its close its usually fine.
