Question. I have run the valvoline MSG 5W40 now it looks like they changed the name and it no longer references dexos 2 on the label? It does say MST... Anyone aware ?

That's what i have been running too.
What name have they changed it to? It is still appearing as SynPower MST 5w40 Dexos2 on Valvoline website...
Please explain - thanks!
PS Note that some early batches of this oil did not have the Dexos2 on the label...

At advanced auto parts, says MST, for European cars, correct weight , but no dexos 2 logo and new label. I guess I can call Valvoline, maybe the same and they did not pay to recertify? Also, it's on the same place on the self as I have brought prior from this store...

If it doesnt say SynPower MST Full Synthetic 5w40 with Dexos2 logo, then it is not the same oil. The latter is still listed on GM Dexos website. So i suspect you found another Valvoline in 5w40 weight, but that's not it.

But it also said "for Euro cars" right?
If so then not the same oil...

Merchant Response

Thank you for taking the time to send us your feedback; we can tell you're a discerning DIYer. Select grades from our Advanced Full Synthetic product line (0W-40, MST 5W-30, MST 5W-40, and XL-III 5W-30) have been rebranded to European Vehicle Full Synthetic. As part of this change, formulas were updated to increase the vehicles for which these products met specifications. And with formula changes, come new specification testing. Unfortunately, original equipment manufacturers no longer offer testing for Dexos2 or ACEA 3 specifications. As a result, we were unable to apply for those licenses and/or include those specs on our packaging. If you'd like to find out whether the new formulation meets the specs for your vehicle(s), please visit our product finder (https://team.valvoline.com/productfinder) or contact us at 1-800-TEAM-VAL.

Thanks for posting this. No more testing for Dexos2?
This seems highly unlikely. Time to contact GM Dexos for clarification? Or just go with factory Mobil1?

Please note i have updated my OP to reflect that Valvoline has changed its recipe and no longer meets Dexos2 standard. Stay tuned re GM Dexos reply to my inquiry/clarification request.
