Chevrolet Dealerships and Their Price Gouging

I called a dealer about a 1SS Camaro 1LE. THE MSRP is $48,990. I asked for a price quote and received the shock of my life they had a market adjustment added into the final price. A $20,000 market adjustment. The 1SS would have cost as much as a ZL1 1LE. I believe in Capitalism but that's a ****ing joke!
Fremont Chevrolet should be ashamed of themselves!

I was hoping to have a 2023 Camaro SS/1LE built. I found this to be hard done than said. I went to Simpson Chevrolet in Garden Grove, CA and they took good care of me! I didn't get the Radiant Red car I wanted built but I was able to get everything on a 2023 Shadow Grey 1SS/1LE. I must admit that I've fallen for the Shadow Grey color too!

I too walked into that same dealership just to see if I got a good deal on my 2023 SS convertible that I bought from another dealership and was surprised that I did. Even though the dealership I bought from had a $10K dealer markup for my car.

ADP or whatever you want to call it has been around since the 1970's (1978 Corvette pace car comes to mind). Nothing new. Dealers can ask for the moon for specialty/short supply models. It doesn't get me all whacked out. Nobody is being forced to buy. They are looking for the person with the want and extra $'s and they are around.

You can browse the websites of local dealers and most of them will show their quoted price on the vehicles, saves the hassle of calling.
As to factory orders, they are very easy to do in my part of the continent, I would recommend just looking further afield from the apparently scummy dealers in your area.

Most of the dealers around here are charging MSRP. My local had a ZL1 vert and it actually had a 2g discount

I for one despise dealerships. I think the whole concept in of itself is broken. They only exist because there are laws that require their existence.

That being said - $20k ADM is a lot - but they ARE selling. I was looking around up in the bay area for a new one earlier this year (I ended up going with a very low mile used one). If you're talking about Fremont Chevy up here - I do remember calling them - they had an SS 1LE for $10k over. I called to go look at it (to be clear, I wasn't interested in the $10k ADM but more interested in checking the car itself out) - they had sold it earlier in the morning.

Same thing happened with another local dealer that had SLE on the lot - it sold quickly as well from what I can tell - it wasn't on their site after a few days.

So they ARE selling at that price so that's clearly what the market will bear. . . .

I suspect it's also used as a sales tactic. Dropping it to $2-3k ADM when asking $10k, might make buyers look at it more favorably.

Shop it. I just leased a fully-loaded LT-1 from Rio Vista Chevy (in Buellton) and they took over $3k off MSRP. There are deals if you look hard enough.

You have to invest a lot of time to get one that's not 5-10k over on the west coast. I don't have a problem with them charging whatever they want over window, Z06's are 150k over, Blackwings are 7-10 over, simple supply and demand they don't have a gun to my head. I just bought a 1SS1LE from Paradise in Temecula yesterday, i was on the chevy site daily and it wasn't a sold unit , and had just been dropped off had not been through pre check. They wanted 1500.00 over window, but i used the 750.00 rebate and got it for MSRP + 750.00 which i considered would be as good as i would get considering the slim inventory. Wanted an M6 and there were only three in a five hundred mile radius and they were all 5k + over window and dealers are not budging as they clearly have the upper hand currentely. Salesperson drove 300 miles round trip to my house and i signed the paperwork, will pick up wed. He told me six people had called on the car right after me it would have sold that day. Of course you can pay up, but it's a crazy time right now on these and who knows how many more being produced.

Is it the Hot Red manual 1SS 1LE? Funny that they are quoting 20k over sticker now, I ringed them 4 weeks ago and they wanted "just" 8k over sticker.

Yes,the red hot in Fremont was 10k over when i called a couple weeks ago, the Vivid Orange 10spd at Felix was 8k over. 20K ADM is some pretty tall grass for any SS1LE, let alone a ZLE. That being said they seem to have no problem selling them.

The East coast is not so bad, at least around me. Ive been at #1 on the allocation list at local dealer since December. So I started looking at the area 150 mile out, PA, OH, MD and WV.
As soon as it was announced that January would be the last month of production most dealers tacked on an additional $5K. Ive been calling on in transit ZL1's and all so far were sold orders. Well yesterday I recieved a call from a local dealer that the car they have coming just came off the truck and is available. Hell Yea! So Im thinking Ok, will they honor MSRP? You bet, plus the $750 rebate, plus supplier discount. Yes, this car is now in my garage, lol.
Be patient and keep looking, deals are out there.

I picked up my 23 in January that I ordered in May of 22. 1250 off msrp. It would be cheaper to fly to the east coast and drive it home.
