Buying a ZLE soon. What to look out for?

Hi all, New here. Ive had my eye on a cayman S or a ZL1 1LE ever since it was announced a couple years back. Ive found some decent pre-owned examples and was wondering if there is anything to look out for or look at, when scoping the car out to purchase.

Im very particular about brake wear, tire wear, and miles. Any other tips would be great.

My concern is always the history. Give a dealer the vin and ask for service history and run a car fax of course.

Put it on a rack and have someone do a inspection. Also if you think that the car may have been tracked, you may want to have the oil and brake fluid changed. Different fluid recommendations if you track your car. I would also look at the tires for any cracks in the rubber, especially if the car has been sitting or transported from a colder climate.

Cracked tires from improper usage or storage.

3R do not tolerate low temps, they will crack.. and once that happens, they are trash.

Thanks all, Car looks to have a clean report and is a southern car. Living in florida I know the tires are mostly safe here, but anything under 40 is risky for DOT slicks. I plan on having the alignment redone by chevy at purchase and the whole thing looked over. Ill have my own fluids exchanged when I get it home regardless of condition.

A good choice for the money...for sure. Best performance car l have ever owned. However, it does have, IMO, the worst engine management software ever on a GM performance car. Way over rich mixture, power interruptions to "save" drivetrain warranty complaints (which don't seem to be happening even with up-powered motors), and a "you just don't know to drive" attitude from Chevy when complaints were raised.

But overall...l still love it... in my case, with my car, easy, minor tweaks and it runs better. It's a shame that GM did such a good job on the ZLE, then handicapped it with stupid software, apparently fearing massive warranty claims.

If l wasn't concerned about an oil pump failure...l'd be looking for a tune to eliminate the software issues. But since l have an extended warranty...l'm stuck in stock mode.

Good luck...

JJ

Make sure the car has PDR as an option to record your travels or track days. Should show PDR on the screen and have a slot on the lower left of the dash for a flash drive.

If you plan to daily drive the ZL1 1LE, make sure you test drive it on normal roads.
I daily drive mine and find it "tolerable" but it's definitely not for everyone.

The first used one I looked at was a GM corporate car that had 2000 miles on her. At first look, she looked great & rode great. After a closer inspection the rear rotors had grooves already in them & the quarter panels in front of the rear tires where full of rock chips. I think it was a track toy for GM. I ended up passing & driving up to NC & picking one up. Just give the car a real good look over. Most used ones out there have next to no miles on them so you really shouldn’t have any issues & most will still have a lot of warranty left. Buy one & never look back
