New Hood Design... IROC-Z RL for Gen 6 Camaro

EDIT: NOW AVAILABLE for Pre-Order...

https://irocmotorsports.com/product/...iberglass-frp/

When first designing the IROC/COPO hood, we simply set out to remove heat...

When we designed the IROC-Z hood, we were trying to remove even more heat with the vents but found in testing they effectively created more down force (by reducing lift) on the surface of the hood as well...

So, for our 2019 IROC-Z vehicles, we wanted to maximize the heat removal AND additional down force on the front of the car, we consulted with Jeff Nowicki (of Corvette design fame) on the best way to "have our cake and eat it to."

Of course, a Vette guy would say "stick a Vette hood on it"... so we did lol.

We've already carved the molds, laid up the bottoms and are in the process of laying up the top skins (plural as we make two, we test fit both and then make them "gospel" plugs, one gets used to make our infusion molds, the other stored for future dexterity).

We are just showing our CAD pics for now, finished pics coming mid-January most likely...

Front opening like the ZR1 Corvette to help cool, our same IROC-Z Vortseiner style vents to extract heat from the exhaust area and reduce lift, and of course the rear of the cowl is open to extract even more heat.

Can't wait to see what she looks like on a car, I'll update this thread with pics as we get them

Thoughts so far?

FYI, we also brought the rear of the cowl DOWN (from the IROC hoods) for better aesthetics AND air flow OUT, while RAISING the part of the cowl directly over the throttle body (to give a little more clearance for aftermarket set ups).

I'll make some comparison pics once we have the hood on a car...

Well, we moved faster than planned. First hood is out of the mold next week. It ended up requiring a more complicated mold (center divider will not release as one piece, so we had to make it a multiple piece mold) and therefore a higher price to manufacturer (center divider gets bonded in from a separate mold) but it seems that this hood is definitely going to be one of the best functioning hoods at...

1) Cooling the vehicle's various fluid coolers and the motor itself.
2) Reducing a LOT of lift created by the Camaro's front bumper design by letting the air escape exactly where it wants to.

Right now this is just based off of rough computer projections from a guy we use in Australia (he does a lot of the aero for Formula cars) to help us with the "flow" of our designs, but basically all that air coming in now has somewhere to go AND it is directed so that the first blast is released through the front opening, while cooler air from under the car is channeled over the motor and out the cowl.

Of course we added the "IROC" heat extractors on the sides as those GREATLY make the front end feel more "stuck to the road".

I'm honestly a little giddy waiting to get the IROC-Z back from Hoonigan Monday and slap one of these on next week for some "spirited" testing.

We are honoring the price I quoted everyone in this thread though for the Pre-Order, hood is currently $200 off what the normal price will be.

To be clear, if you click the below link and Pre-Order you WILL NOT PAY ANY MONEY (no CC info is taken or anything). It will simply put you on a list to be emailed when the hood's are ready to ship and IF you still want it at that price you have the ability to purchase it at that price.

I wish I would have had this module on my website last year, it helps us know what to have ready in stock without taking any customer's money before the part is ready.

So, if you're interested, here she is...

https://irocmotorsports.com/product/...iberglass-frp/

First production one out of the mold next week, I'll update pictures then and also the discount will be gone so we can make a profit. These are all vacuum infused fiberglass to be as lightweight and strong as possible (not "wet lay up" like most other hoods on the market) and of course proudly made here in the USA.

Hopefully others are excited as I am for this piece, I've been working on it for about 10 months and happy to see it finally coming out.

Carbon Fiber is no problem just pricey. Weave has to be spliced in multiple places to look good.
