Doesn't it rub constantly on the clearcoat and act as fine sandpaper as it shifts slightly with incoming air, though? I swear I can almost scratch the clear with my bare skin, it's that brittle...

Yep, the paint is pretty terrible. The Christmas Bow they had on my car scratched the clear pretty good.

The Nova stretch collects sand and dirt, particularly at the lower attachment areas at the wheel wells. It’s a nice product, but for intermittent use only. I’ll use mine for long road trips, then pull it off, shake it out, wash in a sink and air dry. I probably wouldn’t use it if I didn’t already have PPF on the nose (as you said, scratching) All it is for me is an extra layer of protection from highway projectiles.

I see some folks here have had noticeable issues. I have not. However, I do not drive my car in the rain, I wash it religiously and when I do I remove the mask, soak it in some dish detergent and rinse it thoroughly. I have not had any marks on my finish.
