Video recording with MPH overlay?

Hello,

I was invited to my first road course event in a while since I got my ZL1
I'll be heading out this Sunday. Unforunately, I'm so unprepared with video which I'd like to record.

Is there an Android app that anyone can recommend that records the speed as well? I looked up and down Google Play to see if there's anything but couldn't really come up with anything yet.

Sure, I can open up my camera and set it in video mode and record but I'm looking for video to capture my speed.

So, not sure what your budget would be, and not sure how accurate you want it, but the Insta360 x3 I just bought will collect GPS data from your phone and you can overlay speed, direction, and it will even draw the course if there is a good GPS signal. The other option is a mounted camera that will maybe sit on your driver window and be pointing at the speedometer.

Thanks for your response. I'm not looking for anything crazy or expensive right now. Also, given that I only have just a few days to get something, not sure just anything will come fast enough to my house.

I guess as you said, I may have no choice but to try to mount phone pointing at speedo somehow. Problem is windows have to be down so nowhere to mount suction cup. We'll see.

I'll keep that Insta cam in mind though. Looks like a nice piece.

There are several apps you can use on your phone to collect data.

- Harry's Lap Timer
- RaceChrono
- TrackAddict

I assume you do not have PDR optioned in your ZL1.

Did look at some of those ,thanks. Track addict has a subscription.
Looking for something free.

Just pay for the app, it's worth it, not that expensive. Dragy has an app as well.

Pretty sure RaceChrono is free. That's what my buddy uses. Doesn't give a ton of data, but provides at least lap times & optimals.

Thanks for the suggestions folks.

I was checking out some suggestions. Looks like it's down to RaceChronos-the paid version as it does video and/or Dragy lap.

I prefer TrackAddict, but Dragy Lap works well if you have a Dragy.

PDR should be a standard feature of any 1LE package, but I digress...

I've used apps in the past that can overlay speed on videos, but they can be hit or miss. One workaround I found effective was using a separate GPS speedometer app to record my speed during the drive, and then combining this footage with my main video later.

To combine videos (one with the road view and the other showing speed), I've used Movavi. It helped me synchronize the speed data with the video footage seamlessly, creating a professional-looking result. This method allows for more flexibility in editing and ensures that the speed overlay matches the video perfectly.

RaceChrono syncs my GoPro, GPS Lap timer, and OBD sensor to give live telemetry. I paid $20.

Best i ever spent.
