Brake rotors choice

Hi guys!

I want to buy new front brake rotors for my Camaro. I have 1 piston brake system – JL9 and it’s my daily drive car (I don’t have track days, 95% of the time it’s normal driving). On RockAuto I found rotors from companies: Dynamic Friction, Power Stop, R1 Concepts and ACDelco. Please, could you recommend a good producer? I think the best way is to take the original – ACDelco but what can you tell about quality from other producers? What would you buy?

Thank you in advance!

I would stick with stock. I run a 1LE and I basically only do trackdays. The first year I ran stock and they held up just fine for a full year until eventually running low on thickness. I switched to Girodisc on the second year and they have been fine as well. The girodisc is a lot tougher as far as not losing thickness but it's getting "heat cracks" to the point where I'll also need to change them after 1 year. I think for just driving on the road you just need something reliable and inexpensive. There is no need to get anything performance focused because your brakes will never be pushing near 100% use.

You can also keep an eye on the member classifieds and maybe pick up an extra set from someone who is selling them.

You are right regarding stock, I just found a sets of rotors and pads for the good price, that’s why I asked about other producer’s quality

If you are not tracking your car, just get a set of ceramic pads and solid rotors from Stop Tech and call it a day.

Power Stop is fine. I have their Z26 pads on my car and they work just fine for street use, and with zero dust!

My friend is getting Power Stop rotor for his new Camaro project. He also got them on his truck along with new gear wheels and nittos. Been doing great for a year as DD.

What level of Power Stop rotors are we recommending?
I see:
1) Drilled/slotted
2) Coated
3) Stock/OEM equivalent

I never understood the allure of slotted or drilled rotors (on our streetable cars) with their smaller surface area, holes to clog up with brake dust and sharp or weakened edges prone to start cracking... is it esthetics maybe?

That's what I suspect is the main allure.
Some brands also offer regular and high-carbon steel options. From what I've read the high carbon is not worth it. Now the coating process does seem to offer some corrosion resistance.
Of the 3 options I listed, I would favor the coated, although I still have stock rotors on my 2SS.

For the every day use I think to buy coated rotors + ceramic pads. May be if you drive on a track better to have more performance solutions.
