Should I go for a white 1LE? [update: i went for it]
Riddle me this. Personal question, I know.
I have an arctic blue '18 1SS A8 with 2200 miles. I've now decided I want to go all in and get a 1LE. It's my fun car, not a daily, and I bought the auto because I wasn't sure if I was going to track it, just wanted a nice cruiser/road trip car, etc. Well, now that I've had it for a while, I think I should have just gone manual and 1LE in the first place. But it took having this one to realize it. There is only one 1LE for sale even remotely close to me. It's a brand new summit white 1SS 1LE. This would be an opportunistic buy, and I am not really interested in buying plane tickets somewhere or negotiating shipping a vehicle. Plus I will need to trade mine in. It's just so....WHITE. I feel like the white color makes it look bloated like a marshmallow. Definitely not a fan of summit white in pictures. However, I've never seen one in person. And as I know from arctic blue metallic, you have to see a color in person, even touch the paint and get up close, to know if you really like it or not. What would you do in this situation? I'm pretty sure I need to go drive this 1LE, and see if the white bothers me as much as it does in photos. Last edited by protovack; 06-21-2018 at 01:01 AM. |

Have your local Chevrolet dealer do a search. If you are buying new they will have it delivered to their dealership.
I don't care for white on my hot rods. I live in Ca. If I were to do what you are doing, I would get hit with the sales tax again. Good luck with your purchase! |

I think white is the best color. It could be that I live where it's very hot most of the time and I like driving with windows down and AC off. White cars reflect heat, dark colors do not. I had a black Civic SI a couple of years ago- that car was a hot box- scortching if you touched outside when it was in the sun- and I needed to run the AC all the time. I have a white FIST now and it reflects the sun- you can touch the outside paint when it's full sun and 100 degrees and it's cool to the touch and cool inside the car. So I barely use the AC and can drive my favorite way with the windows down. I wish my Camaro was white- I love the dark gray color but it's very hot inside of it compared to the FIST.

Get a color you want. Have the dealer do a search. You will be happier in the long run. That's my advice!

I'm not a big fan of white on cars, but the black accents that are on the 1LE compliment the white. Looks like a storm trooper from Star Wars.
But, I would see if your local dealer can find one and have it shipped to his/her dealership for you. They do that all the time. Or you can try Becky Doyle, who is on this site all the time. She can ship a car to your house for a reasonable cost. Becky has done a ton of business with folks on this site and everyone loves the experience. But either way, get the color you like best. Life is too short to drive a car this exciting, but in a color you don't really like. |

If you're in Western Washington, I believe the Chevy dealer in Renton has quite a few 1LE's sitting on the lot.

For the amount of money you're going to pay, get the color you want. I love white, but I wouldn't settle for say, blue, if the car wasn't available locally.

Thanks guys.
Here's the thing. I've just never had, or considered a white car before. It feels a little odd to me. But I'm not necessarily against it. |

From a practical standpoint, a pure white car (one without metalflake or pearl in the paint) is almost as difficult to maintain as a black car. Every bit of dust and dirt shows, and rail dust leaves rusting orange spots all over the car that don’t show up with other colors. My car before the 1LE was refrigerator white, and all the edges of the Xpel were easy to see because the dirt just laid up against the edges of the film, making it look like a 4-wheeled puzzle. It never looked clean. ’ve has a few white cars that were pearl or metallic white, and this was not a problem.

Proto- You live in Washington state? near Seattle? where it rains ALOT? Get a silver 1LE, shows the dirt less.

I was originally looking for one in the charcoal but when i saw the white with the black accents it was a no brainer for me. Storm Trooper-ed out! And seems to stay cleaner and cooler than darker colors.
