Looking at a 2014 vert...is the top an issue?
Looking at this forum and the posts about the the top would give one the impression to run for the hills.
Is it still a big concern or is this mostly an early issue? |

From what I understand, most people don't have top problems. Mine has been good so far. You only hear about people who do have top problems on the forum. It would be kind of stupid to have a bunch of "My top works fine" threads I wouldn't worry too much about top issues, especially with the 2014.

I never really complained but saw this thread. My 2012 45th had top problems, I dumped it. I hope they changed some things, it would be interesting to notes if the problems were addressed

Yes, lucky for me I didn't see this forum before I bought my 2012 2SS/RS vert. It seems they have gotten better every year. Just heard of some guy with an issue with a 2013 but not any 2014's as of yet. Mine has been fine, but I am always checking it as well. It doesn't leak, no wind noise and it looks great. There are horror stories, but those fine folks blazed the trail for the rest of us. GM has really stepped up to the plate and they know all about the issues and are addressing them. Hate to say this, but almost wish mine had "an issue" about a month before the warranty runs out and get a brand new one, maybe a blue one as mine is Imperial Blue Metallic , ha. GM has also been known to extend the warranty on the top once they replace the top |

I am one of those original trail blazers. I must say though, just cause you don't see any posts about good tops doesn't mean they are all good. I probably pointed out to two dozen people I have met in parking lots, shows, and on the street that their tops were not normal. With rub marks, holes, fraying etc. The common answer I got from all of them is the dealership said it was normal. Once I informed them it wasn't, I showed pictures of my first car GM bought back, then showed them my new car, let's just say they were really enlightened. I think it is to early to tell on the 14's but I remain optimistic that they finally have it figured out. I have not heard or read of one issue yet on the 14's and not nearly as many as the 13's which is great.

OP, remember C5 is just a small sample of vert owners. I also think a lot of owners are embarrassed to complain on this forum because of the price they paid. I know I would be if I paid 35 to 40K.

Based on my experience with my 12 I had one small issue in the first year and 3 months, since the dealer and their outsourced top shop got a hold of it I have now got several major issues now. I am in the middle of working with my second dealer and a factory rep to get it taken care of properly.
That being said I think the 13's and 14's are a pretty safe bet now. As long as you keep it out of the dealers hands.

We've had some issues on our '11 and were all correctly repaired by the dealer. The main thing is to research the dealers in your area. That seems to be the major issue with unqualified mechanics and service reps. who couldn't correct the problems.
I too agree with the other posts that a lot people don't recognize they have a defective top and its still early to tell on the '14's. My wife would still be driving around with a bent 5th bow and loose cable tensioner if I hadn't visited atleast five dealers to find one I felt knew how to work on them. |
