I agree. Patch it and plug it. Should be good unless you track, or drive at crazy triple digit speeds.

Another point to the run flats

well its a front tire so im not worried about the tread difference on a new tire ruining anything.

Im going to get the new tire anyway, but repair the old one and see how it holds up. I would eventually track it and I would not like to worry about it.

when i had a nail fixed in my tire....it was far enough in towards center of tire...normal tire you should be ok as long as it is not near the sidewall...but manager of tire shop told me that the way the sidewalls were made for runflat type tires...the puncture had to be even further away from sidewall towards center of tire...looking at your pic...if your tire is a runflat...i would say replace...

Why would you risk your life over something so trivial?

I know the answer, because you’ve convinced yourself you can get away with it. This is why increasing punishment (by itself) doesn’t stop crime, people convince themselves they won’t get caught. Same reason people text and drive, etc.

I’m speaking to the tracking specifically.

Because if the plug loses air, it does so gradually, and your TPMS will pick it up long before it's a problem. My right rear has two plugs in it, the tire didn't drop 1 PSI after a track day at Chuckwalla and then a 3.5 hour drive at 90+ MPH the whole way back to Phoenix.

Yea that tire is junk. No self respecting shop would dare patch that. The liability of it blowing out is mind boggling. Replace it and move on.

I just had this one patched. I bought 2 OEM rears just in case but the shop said it could be patched no problem.

I was a little hesitant but the car only has 4k miles and there's still tread. I'll see how far they can take me, or just do some massive burnouts with them if I notice any issues.

It wasn't even a nail, it was an allen key.

I pulled the cannon from a Monopoly game out of one tire.

I didn't know they make some plugs out of dynamite, interesting!

You'll be fine.

The RMA became the organization I posted. Ive been a tech for 16 years now and havent known a wider repair section than what was posted. I guess when I first started, we would say as long as it was atleast an inch away from the tread edge or where the sidewall and tread section meet.
