Creaks like old wooden flooring!!

Hey guys,

I've got an unusual one. I've owned my '17 ZL1 for a little over a year now and in the past couple of months I've developed an issue, may be a structural one..but I can't make sense of why it would be considering my car is bone stock and I have had no accidents or anything of the sort...so...was wondering if anybody else has had this issue and if there is a solution.

Whenever I accelerate or brake, even worse if it is accelerating from a stand still and no matter how hard, moderate or soft I accelerate or again, while braking...I get this creaking noise...literally like old homes with wooden flooring...and it seems to be coming from the deck right behind the backrest of the rear seats. I have even dropped the rear seats and noise is even louder and more pronounced, however no idea what it could be. It also kinda sounds like when you put metal under stress and the release the stress.

Annoying as hell....so....any guess as to what it could be and what the solution would be??

I look forward to your feedback....

Thanks and regards.

Yeah I’d go with sway bar bushings too. I’ve had this happen on a few cars and that cleared it up for me. Easy first thing to try

Is the back of the seat touching the rear seat? I make sure I have a finger space between the 2.

My in-law's isnt a ZL1 ,but it was doing that. Turned out to be something with his seat. I believe something with the seat track or something. You post reminded me of the days having t-top cars. They loved to creak like old wood floors.

I had this exact issue and finally took it to the dealership after it started becoming very pronounced. Turned out to be corrosion in the rear axles. Warranty fix, haven't heard the noise again in 30k+ miles since.

So they replaced the axles? Another winter delivery car?

Mine was built in May, delivered to dealership in June or July I think. I bought it in August. They didn't replace the axles, they stripped them down and re-greased them. The corrosion was more surface than anything they said, probably contamination in the axles or lubricant to start with. They also said the problem was more noise than something actually breaking, but could have become a real issue if I had let it go for another year.

The dealership thought so too. Had my car for two weeks. The problem could be replicated easily, they just scratched their heads for that long playing process of elimination. I think I even got a free differential fluid change out of the deal

Try opening the trunk and pushing the car from behind a few times to get the car rocking back and forth to see if you hear it or can isolate it to a particular area.

Well after much due diligence and no results, I called my dealership and booked an appointment. They said they knew what it was and it just simply needs lubrication. Nothing to worry about. Apparently 1 out of every 5 Camaros landing here in the UAE is dealing with this issue. I was shocked by the number, however they reckon it’s something to do with shipping method or god knows what. So lets see, I’ll know in two days what the issue is as I will get my car back in two days.

Thanks everyone for ur feedback.
