Is your college debt paid off? How about the car?

25 when I bought my 2018 ZL1. Sold my full bolt on 2015 WRX as a solid down payment. Been working sales since I was 20, loaned out for this car but will realistically have it paid off before the term is up.

If I had this car years ago.. I’d be dead . coming from an 02 WRX to a 2015 WRX and being the one to do most of the work I’ve learned to appreciate my car vs abuse it and let it go to crap. Biggest reason I went to the Z was it had the best handling for a high power RWD car and plus it had more HP than both my previous cars combined

About 25% paid off so far on the college debt. Been overpaying since I've gotten out. Owe 43 left on the zl1.

Bought my 2018 ZL1 at 24. Software Engineer at a Fortune 500 since 21.

Even though I could/can comfortably afford the payments, I traded the car last year in exchange for a 2019 Accord with no loan. Currently investing the car payments instead; I figure it's a better use of time and money at my age. Plus no debt besides mortgage is always nice.

so you're saying your signature is 1 year old? haven't gotten around to changing the "current car" part or just still living the dream?

I don’t visit the forum much anymore for obvious reasons, so I guess it’s a combination of both. Wouldn’t you want to still “live the dream” if you were driving an accord instead of a Z?

cars will always be here... your investment is a smart business move , and will likely allow you to own even nicer cars in the future...

life is a marathon not a sprint

Being debt free is always more satisfying than a cool car IMO. You'll thank yourself as you get older I can promise you that.

Exactly. It should be youngest ZL1 owner without a car payment.

Yeah, what is explained to me is a little hard to comprehend...I'm told the homes here in the rgv will cost 3x-5x LESS be it a new build or older residence in certain places in Ca. We've been in our humble pad for around 20yrs & boy the county sure thinks it's worth a lot more than what I paid today.

If one is debt free other than mortgage, then on the right track more than likely. I've had a company truck or we were driving paid off 5-10yr old cars early on. I still wish I had started sooner but reliable transportation is all you really need if you put the finances first. I wasted $$$ on car payments when I didn't need to & had to learn the lesson so no way am I throwing stones at anyone. Still, it just Kills me to see threads of the younger guys in the general forum & working all around payments for a want & not a need.

Damn. Judgemental. Not going to ride around in my college beater for another 5 years nor pay for a okay car. Much better paying per month on a car that you love rather than budgeting on a car that kinda sucks to pay each month on. Thanks for the advice though. I have my dream car that I will be keeping for a very long time.

What would you consider “a high car payment”?

Well you said you owe $43K on your ZL1. $43K/60 months at 0% is 716/mo.
To me that's "a high car payment". Of course it's all relative to how much you have coming in.

Unless I was making about $300K/yr, no way would I saddle myself with that kind of overhead. Would kill any joy I had for the car.
