Anyone Experiece California Police Using K Band
A bit of a generic topic, but the members that use radar detectors might find this relevant.
I've yet to encounter a threatening K Band alert, but I'm new to using a radar detector. |

K band is pretty dated. I see Highway patrol using the lidar rifles around here. Admittedly, I haven’t ran a detector for years, but even back then K band was rare. I think passing patrol vehicles would sometimes have it running on their on-car units.

I believe some smaller cities are still using k band. An internet search would be in order.

I recommend doing some reading here: https://www.rdforum.org/
My experience around San Diego, local PD and CHP use KA, or Laser. Roadside signs use K band. |

I've seen highway patrol use it about 2 different times down highway 101. Usually I see Ka band going off and laser.

I've had my Ka band go off near CHP down in Temeucla and Orange County on the 5 and 10. Saved me a few times.
Side note Also in Phoenix Arizona, had DPS Ka band go off from the other side of the freeway

Nope. K-band for enforcement is dead in California. I have it locked out on my detector completely, otherwise I would be having signal overload from every sliding glass door and blind spot indicator in the world.
As everyone else said, Ka-band is where it's at. I am aware of exactly ONE false Ka positive after 5+ years of having my detector, and it's a fixed antenna on a light post on Willow Avenue in West Long Beach. CHP is pretty lazy about how they use their Ka sets, because people with no situational awareness are plentiful, and they frankly don't NEED to be selective about when to use radar.. so they drive around all day with their antennae turned on... and still get passed by people who drive cluelessly. If you know how to use your detector as a source of available data, instead of a magical force field to protect your from tickets, then it's generally hard to be caught unaware by the Highway Patrol. LIDAR on the other hand, scares me. By definition, it involves laying in wait, and taking advantage of some of the assumptions described above. I was in the passenger seat of my buddy's C7 when he got nailed for 82/65 (kind of a chickenshit ticket, but that's a whole other story) and the first hint of trouble was his Escort MAX detecting Laser, by which time it was a done deal. |

I have a V1 and tried running K, Ka and Laser and am located in the Bay and my V1 was going crazy. Every other car now has laser and k for blind spot. Now I just run Ka and might get laser jammers. Trust me no point running K, you will want to end yourself.
