Check in the trunk too under the carpet where a jack is normally stored - it might be there along with the "capless funnel adapter" (mentioned on page 245 of the owners manual). Both the extender and the adapter were in a plastic zip-lock bag when I took delivery.

Did you receive any owners manual supplements? They would be loose sheets of paper with the owners manual. One that I received (pictured below) explains the Emergency Trunk Release (Convertible Only) using the extender and the other is about putting the top down using the RKE transmitter...looks like my guess about how to use the extender was correct.
