1LE What is it?

Sorry, this has probable been discussed somewhere on here, but I didn't do a search, as I don't think I would get an exact answer to my question.

On Tuesday I'll be checking out a 17 1SS 1LE, but what exactly is the 1LE?
I assume it is different from the Magnetic Ride Control, but what does it consist of?

Anything I should be concerned of while doing a test drive?

Is there an item I can look for that is very specific to show the car actually has a 1LE pkg other than the wheels, hood, badge etc.?

The car has 24k miles on it.

Thank you!

Seems like most of that comes with the SS, and the 1LE has a FE4 suspension...how is that different from the Magnetic Ride?
Trying to see what's ADDITIONAL to the SS via the 1LE pkg.

The FE4 suspension is the same one as the zl1 so it is still mrc . The elsd In the 1le is amazing in its performance and is the biggest difference between the ss and 1le as that's not a option you can add on. and the brakes are very similar to the zl1 the 1le is in a away a zl1 without the supercharger.

This isn't a good thread for this, there are better ones, do some searches.

There's other stuff too, like the stiffer sway-bars and suspension (less body lean), the electronically controlled diff, that doesn't come on the SS either.

The best answer is that the 1LE is the ZL1 suspension, wheels, brakes, tires, etc., with the NA SS engine. Although these aren't all exactly the same (because the ZL1 weighs more, some of these are a bit different), they are relatively the same level of aggressiveness. The lateral Gs and ability at the track is one of the best deals in the automotive world right now. The SS isn't "bad" in these respects, far better than the handicapped mustang with the skinny tires.

I was considering the 1SS 1LE or tricking out a 2SS with most of the 1LE gear, because I wanted the 2SS options that didn't come on the 1SS at the time, but doing it that way ended up several thousand more expensive and you still missed a few things, the e-diff, etc. It's cheaper to get it as a package. Not everyone is into "handling" and dynamics, but if you are, this may be the car for you. If it's stoplight-hero stuff, you might want to look elsewhere.

The #1 upgrade you get in the 1LE is the rear differential. Not only is it the electronic diff, the case is SUBSTANTIALLY more heavy duty in the 1LE (has the same center section as the ZL1)

The standard SS rear end has a design that is showing some problems when guys start putting some power into the cars.

Beyond that, the upgrade in the wheels, tires and brakes would cost substantially more that the price difference.

If you are looking for a 1LE, if you can find left over 18's you can get a hell of a deal vs ordering a 19

I can vouch for the awesomeness of the 1le after driving mine for only 400 miles before it was creamed. The cornering ability was awesome, but there are some drawbacks to be remembered.

Unlike the bulging fenders of the ZL1, with the same tires on the 1le the tires stick out a bit from the lip of the wheel well. This allows it to throw up unbelievable amounts of gravel, sand, or whatever ruining the paint in various places. Mine had Xpel, but you could see clearly where even that was chipped. Driving over any graveled roads threw up tons of stuff on your paint job.

Speaking of the tires, I bought my 1le with just under 10k miles on it and the original Goodyear tires were shot. So every 10K you need a new set of $1300 tires. Yeah, I know, someone will surely say theirs lasted 20K, but the ones on my car didn't and others didn't get that much out of them. I believe my car was driven reasonably hard carving canyons because that's what it was built for...no regrets. However, many will tell you that other tires with the same performance potential wore approximately the same and were more expensive. So the Goodyears were a bargain for the performance. Oh, and you are warned that it's dangerous to drive them in temperatures under 40 degrees...the tires may crack!

The 1le is absolutely dangerous to drive with any spirit in the rain. I know! On ramps are tempting to accelerate quickly, but in the rain, simply don't do it! The electronic traction control will not save you!

The 1le carries a huge amount of oil in the reservoir and it's expensive as all get out to service at a dealership.

To achieve the best road course performance, you have to do a performance wheel alignment on the 1le as well at $80 bucks a pop. with that alignment, tires wear even more quickly than the street alignment.

If you order your 1le 1SS you can't get some of the options available to 2SS cars. You can now buy a 2SS 1le, but the added weight of the options surely affects the all out performance compared to the 1SS because of weight. However, if you're buying a 1le for it's best in class road course performance, you probably don't want the 2SS options anyway. I haven't heard of a road course comparison between a 1SS and 2SS equipped 1le, but that would be interesting to see.

Out of the box, a 1le won't be able to stay with an 8A Camaro 1SS on the street in acceleration or at the drag strip. So, don't buy a 1le if the only sanctioned racing you will do is the drag strip. It launches poorly from what I've read.

With all of that said, even with ONLY 455 hp, the Camaro 1le simply can't be beat for the purpose it was built. There are some drawbacks, but there are some very clear advantages. It comes very close to staying with the Mustang GT350R which is at least $20k more expensive if you could find one at MSRP. In the end, Chevys rule.

1LE is the track package.

Go to the Chevy site and look at the build and price section to get the real answer.

If you enjoy an out of the box experience and nice factory warranty without touching your car. 1LE is your answer.

Car drives amazing, it cheaps out with some cosmetics pieces but your getting $60k+ similar performance for a $40k price tag.

Tires: Awesome tires, Car literally sticks to the road. I unfortunately drove them a couple of times on light snow. Not the best experience but i made due with what I had. What its meant for though is a nice warm day, and for you to enjoy rowing through those gears with the tick to keep asking for more grip (because it will give it to you). Rain won't kill you. Just drive normal and like any other car you'll be fine.

Wide tires that stick out through your fender = rock chips galore. People use Xpel to remedy this.

Daily Driving it? I commuted to the city for a while in the car. LOVED IT. I mean i had cars that had stiff suspensions so this felt like a caddy compared to my old cars. MRC does its thing. Gas wasn't to bad. Filled up weekly. Still was getting around 16-20mpg. A/C on in the summer time and bumper to bumper traffic at some points.

With the 1LE you can option the PDR if that interests you.
The "No Lift Shift" programming is different than the standard 1SS-2SS.
You get the same standard SS drive modes, plus all the PTM modes. Wet mode in PTM is nice for those who think the 1LE is out to kill them.
