ZL1 Window Sticker Question
Today I looked at a 17 Zl1, auto (No PDR), black...I hadn't seen one in person and went down to the local dealer today. It looked pretty sweet.
The window sticker listed carbon fiber hood insert as standard equipment. However, over in the dealer option list, it had an additional $600 charge for a carbon fiber hood insert? WTF? I looked at the sales guy and he didn't have an answer...go figure... I don't want a black car, so I didn't press the issue, nor would I buy anything from this particular dealership. But I am still curious...looks to me like they are double charging? (sorry no pic of the window sticker) Thoughts? |

Not sure, as I always thought it was an upgrade...the CF was a $600 option when I ordered & chose to pay for.

Yep, you are paying extra for them not to paint it

Ok...it looks better with exposed carbon fiber...sucks that they get another $600 but that is the right way to go in my opinion.
Thanks for the education... |

My take on the CF and ECF...
The CF is painted to cover up blems. Blem free gets clear coated. Win win for GM

The exposed CF insert costs more because they have to take extra care when laying the cloth such that the weave will be neat, straight, and in alignment throughout. There can be NO flaws in the layout of the cloth.

That car is menacing in only a way a black car can do it. Flat out intimidating!

The C7 top comes in the same CF weave, at the 2015 C7 event at BG, one GM staffer said the clear coat was $1500 per quart.

That's how the C7 is. Entire hood and roof are carbon fiber, but only the flawless ones are kept for exposed. Very similar to how chip manufacturers bin chips. The better performing one become the more expensive high clock skus, but from the same wafers.
