Yup... either West or North.
The housing up North is going fast due to the ExxonMobil campus being built. May be an easier find out in Katy. Really depends on where you'll be working. Figure in the commute. Some places can be a brutal drive. Check in with the folks at www.h-towncamaroclub.com Happy to help out w/ the move and finding a spot. |

Cool... then we pretty much spelled it out. Pearland down South isn't bad either. Just the freeway out West and up North is much better.

Schools either in Spring Branch ISD or Katy ISD on the west side. If you look in Katy, find an established neighborhood so your kid is not moved to another school his senior year! Katy is adding schools left and right as it expands to the west and south, so redistricting could be an issue in a brand new area/neighborhood in Katy. Spring Branch ISD is the cream of the crop in Houston's public schools (IMO), namely Memorial HS and Stratford HS. Be prepared to pay to live in those areas as the property values have skyrocketed in the past 5-6 years.
Up north, Woodlands area (I-45) or Kingwood area (I-59). The Cypress area (Hwy 290 several miles west of Hwy 6) is worth looking at too, but falls under the same issues as the expanding part of Katy.....all new neighborhoods and the constant building of schools. Houston is the fastest growing city in the US and some areas are doing all they can just to keep up.... |

Well.. speaking from experience I feel I can weigh in.
I think you can find a lot of good places all over Houston. I think you should consider where you will be working. The highways are hell here, especially during rush hour. I have family members that live on the south side a commute ~50 miles (one way) to work and with traffic it can take around 1.5 hours. I on the other hand have a 5.5 mile drive to work and it's awesome. I've lived in the South East Side of Houston for about 13 years. The school districts are VERY hit and miss here. CCISD is a good school district, however there are several schools that SUCK in that district. I know, I was in CCISD. Clear Lake is a very good high school academically. Also Clear Falls is brand new and the campus is like a COLLEGE campus! https://www.google.com/maps/preview#...4!2i768!4f13.1 You can get some very nice houses for a pretty good price in the League City area too. Katy area is very good too but like Coog said, for some of those areas on the West side you're really going have to pay. One thing to consider, Exxon is moving A LOT of people to the woodlands / north side of Houston. In my opinion it is going to get really congested in the coming years, more so than it already is.

I just bought a house in Katy and was going to do the same dilemma as you are. I looked around in the Woodlands, Cypress, Katy, Sugarland, Pearland, league city and Webster. The problem I encountered was that most insurance company would not underwrite me a new policy in certain areas, areas that were prone to flooding and founding floodplains.i.e... Kemah, League City, Webster. A dirty little secret about living south of Houston is I- 45 is notorious for having weekend traffic and collisions, from everyone heading to the beach. An example would be this past weekend Galveston held the lone Star bike rally. It took me an hour and a half to go down six exits on I 45, were it would normally take me 15 minutes. Just things to consider

The Woodlands area is a great area! You don't have to live "in" the woodlands but there are neigborhoods close. It's great.
