NPP or not?
Ok, so like many others here, I'd like to go with the NPP exhaust but I've seen two different "startup" videos, one with NPP exhaust and one without.
I know it's hard to compare when two different camera's/mics are being used to capture the sound of the exhaust but to be honest, the exhaust without NPP sounds much better to me. Anyone else feel the same? With NPP: Without: Last edited by bdavies11; 08-12-2015 at 02:01 PM. |

In those videos, the Camaro without NPP actually sounds more throaty to me on my little laptop speakers. Interesting.

The NPP RPO might have cosmetic differences such as dual exhaust tips and rear valence for fitment. We don't truly know yet.

Without... replace stock with Borla S Types... win.
Had them on my 12 5.0 and by god they were ****ing glorious. Best mod I did to that car, by far. Everyone commented how good they sounded. I was hesitant to spend that kind of scratch, but after hearing them in person I did. I would buy them in a heartbeat again for any car.

I will probably go with dual mode. I would need to hear them both side by side to make a better judgement but I doubt the standard exhaust will be as loud as the dual mode or there would be no reason for the dual mode. You can hear how the dual mode pops and rumbles more than the standard exhaust.
At least they put a good sounding standard exhaust on the SS this time.

I think that the recording device has a lot to do with it. Only way to truly judge is to hear it in person.

These videos do no do either exhaust justice. I'd say the quality is sub par in both cases. Not to mention, nobody here really knows exactly how NPP works when just revving. We know that on the 5th gen, the valves work on vacuum and are open at idle and in park. But on the 6th gen they are controlled electronically, but we don't know if they are always full open while sitting still in idle/park or if the mode the car is set to changes the sound like it would going down the road. So do we just assume the car with NPP was full open? I don't know about that. Anyways, I can't imagine for the life of me that Chevrolet would make the NPP more tame, in full out track mode than the standard SS exhaust. Track mode, and maybe even sport mode, should put the exhaust at fully open, but I can definitely see that normal mode may be quieter than the standard SS exhaust. For me, I love how NPP sounds on the 5th gen, and on the C7. I'd be pretty surprised that I wouldn't also like NPP on the 6th gen. With cats, or LT headers, I think its as aggressive as I'd ever want. For that, and b/c I really like the tunability, I'm going NPP.

But I would give the NPP system a good look first....If you like the sound, and the option of being quiet or racey, not have to worry about cels, emissions, warranty, being street legal, a good neighbor, and save some money to boot, to me the NPPs sound like a win-win all around. I like to keep in mind that for this Gen6 Camaro Chevy did their homework on what was popular in the aftermarket and are going for a big piece of that pie for themselves...So far, I think they are doing a good job of getting nice goodies right off the lot... |

I assume that we can put the Ground Effects on either step up with or without NPP.
