Just a matter of time, the factory pot metal gear is prone to failure. See video above 45 seconds in
If I didn't have a six year warranty and was planning to keep the car I would upgrade the pump and not roll the dice |

I'm probably going to get the Katech pump and have it installed at the dealer. I have a warranty, but if the pump were to let go far from home, it would be a massive PITA.
My dealer quoted me $2200 to change it out, plus the cost of the pump. |

I guess for those of you that bought the car used, please check with your service department to check any warranty work done before your current ownership.
I was planning to pay to have the oil pump replace because I would rather not get stranded and have to get towed in the middle of nowhere. Luckily, i had my cat back replaced under warranty so i was able to see the warranty work print out and see that oil pump as replaced before i got my car. Just saying this to prevent any owner paying for something that could have been done. No the Carfax didn't show anything about this being done. I suppose i should have know something was done with the engine when there is torque marks all over the place to include the exhaust manifold hear shield botls. But what did i know? This is what they found and I am quoting. "The pump to the filter, minimal contamination right after the pump, the rest of the port is clean. Flushed out oil port inside block from pump to filer (with oil pan off). Removed sump from oil pan and thoroughly cleaned out debris, and cleaned out oil pan. Reassembled oil pan. Installed new oil pump and reassembled." This was all part of the drive train standard warranty as I do not have an extended warranty. According to the dealership this was a $3245.35 oil pump replacement cost. I guess I count myself lucky that it happened at the dealership but again the pump that they went in with was a GM OEM pump, so now I have to wonder if all the problems have been resolved with these newer pumps. |

I'm not convinced it has (Katech isn't either, granted they have a vested interest in selling pumps but I doubt they would lie about it) - the gear is the weak point, if it's been upgraded it's definitely not billet

I'm not convinced either way. I will say if it hasn't been fixed, seems like a lot more 2019 and newer cars would be posting about their failures and we're just not seeing that so at this point, I'm more inclined to believe it has been fixed but certainly wish I had more definitive proof.

I believe the oil pumps are the same, just that they are assembled at different plants.. The LT1 was made at Tonawanda and LT4 at Bowling green... Bad Batch of oil pumps to bowling green

I just ordered the pump from Katech, after calling to check availability.
I'll have it installed at the dealer pretty soon after getting it. I'm tired of worrying about getting stranded with a destroyed engine, even though I have a warranty. |

Would your warranty stay valid? Even if the dealer installs a after market part you can void it.
