Throttle House track times

I think this list is fairly recent so I figured I’d share.

They need to get a 718 PDK GT4 out there. I want to see what my upcoming car will do against the SS 1LE.

That's a pretty bold statement. How so? I've never seen anything from them that would lead me to believe they are not trustworthy.

I think he means the lap times are not set by a professional racing driver. But to me that's a plus. If a guy who worked his way up through track days and semi-competitive events is able to achieve those times, than likely so am I.

Case and point: I lived in Germany for 3 years chasing lap time on the 'Ring in a '17 BMW M2. Official M2 time on the Ring is 7:58. That means ~7:38 BTG time. Meanwhile Moran Gott a 24h Nurburgring Race driver gets 7:53 BTG in someone else's 2018 M2. I did 7:52 BTG in my own car under track day conditions. So non-race conditions being the equalizing factor, not bad.

Just my half a dime worth of thoughts.

Here is the lap if you guys are interested.

I do appreciate the love the Camaros get from these guys, and agree that the lack of a "pro" driver lends some real world perspective...

I have to agree that watching a pro put down lap times is super cool but it does not sell me. I'm not a race car driver I'm a humble human LOL. Watching these guys for me is more meaningful and helpful in determining what the capabilities of the car could be in my hands.
I like their stuff.

IMO they do know their stuff, I like their reviews and video ideas in general (remember the ZL1 1LE one with Pobst and Cammisa?).

Also IMO their test track is way too short and consequently the time differences inadequate to draw veritable conclusions about the cars they test. Many of the gaps are 0.1-0.2 range, which is nothing, yet due to limited track length features it does not mean the cars in question are equivalent.

Thomas is a race instructor iirc so he's most competent than most, he's no Randy Pobts but I wouldn't go around on the internet talking shit about him

Agreed, he's got much more experience than most folks and can obviously put down consistent lap times. Maybe not a pro, but very few folks get paid to drive cars.

Keep in mind that these guys built this show from the ground up. They have to find all of the cars themselves and are incredibly fortunate to have use of a track at all. They don't have the luxury of picking and choosing what cars they get and on what day. So, are the lap times performed under identical conditions every time? No. Does it really matter all that much? No. If you're reasonably intelligent, you can still draw meaningful conclusions about the capabilities of the cars based on their results. Far more so than the bulk of car review channels out there that have no objective track performance comparisons at all.

+1.

One thing i wish is that they stuck with TMP as a testing venue vs moving to Grand Band. Perhaps rental rates had something to do with it? I do like the idea of the same driver posting the lap times. He is a good representation of a skilled, time trial type amateur, for an apples to apples comparisons.
Their previous times, posted by other drivers were less reliable imo (based on my own lap times). In any case, i view their tests as a good representation of what an experienced amateur can expect from a given car.

For an ultimate test, i like MT reviews with Randy Pobst at Laguna. Pretty sure he can get the most out of different cars given his credentials. And nobody here has been able to get close to his pace, so a good target of what a car is capable of in stock form and a pro behind a wheel.

Cheers!

A while back I looked at the Grand Bend track layout and landmarks on google maps (never been in person), as best I could tell, that's not Grand Bend that they are using. Grand Bend has spectator stands on the drag strip and an infield motorcross track, neither of which I've ever seen in the TH videos. There are also a lot of wind turbines in the TH videos, which I don't see at Grand Bend on google maps. It appears to be a private track somewhere in Ontario that TH is using, but I've no idea where it is.

By previous times posted by other drivers, I gather you're referring to the early early TH days at TMP? To be clear, all of the times listed in the leaderboard shared in the first post of this thread were run by Thomas.

Yeah, the MT reviews with Pobst are fantastic. That the Throttle House guys have earned enough respect to do an episode with Pobst and Cammissa shows how far they've come and makes the "zero credibility" statement all that more ridiculous.
