-Lifter/Valve spring/etc that causes the bottom end to be lunched.

If it's a bad spring/lifter etc..., he may get lucky with just having to replace the affected valve train components. But if he keeps starting the engine up to check it out, that is unlikely.

TC - DO NOT START YOUR ENGINE! You may be able to save the bottom end.

If you have one damaged spring the price its time to get all new....only dirt cheap want trouble people will do a couple springs, and well changing the length of the lifter is accomplished with DOD by taking away pressure from the lovely little lifter that's called kind of starving it for oil in my book..... ANY good shop would tell you do them all when your in there your stupid and cheap if you don't but on a dealers dime they will do as little as possible and charge as much as possible....

No tis just the same oiling on the l99...no starvation its just a little Latch lad..... nothing to hear here no rattle no AFM noise just move along....nothing to see here..

Damn AFM has been problematic since its inception, you should see the convoluted crap BMW and others have tried to invent to counter that oil starvation you say it does not do..........its like amazingly complicated to just try to save that couple MPG but hey you know Barracks EPA and their CAFE standards breathing down our neck.... and JUST SO ITS SAID AFM SUCKS HARD.......you wont see it on a vette or ZL1......... SO sayeth the dude who bought in 2010 a triple black 2ss vert l99 engine Camaro as they just made them ......not my first rodeo.........

It does not take away oil, we've been through this. It applies oil pressure to the other side of the lifter to equalize the pressure in both sides. A large spring can then collapse the lifter and latch it into the shortened length. There is ZERO oil starvation in any part of the engine.

This is where you lie to your wife about the "costs" and buy an LSX 376

She'll never know

lol, i was prepping for that. She doesnt know about the burnout. I told her I was just driving, slowly, normally.

She was hoping for a simple spark plug replace, but I knew better. Because I knew my top end was prob trashed, I'd already started to consider my options. Due to budget constraints, and the fact that its my daily driver, I was considering the LS376/480 495HP Hot Cammed LS3 for $7,256 (doesnt incl labor) I was ready to keep that hot cam part a secret til the day I died. Now I am driving the family mini van while my car's being repaired. sigh...

If you are going to keep on treating your car like that its time to do anything you can to upgrade the bottom end while its out.
