Yes, good for Ford for going all in but at $300k
Built at Multimatic + mid-engine = Ford GT Lite

The acceleration, brake and skid pad results are no better than the previous generation it replaces. At 3933 lbs that car has 200 lbs over a camaro ss 1le. Good luck to all of you considering a $61,000 to $70,000 mustang which is even slower than a regular camaro ss.

I don’t think the new mustang will be slower in a straight line though which I’d argue is more important to most buyers of muscle/pony cars. The Gen 4 coyote is going to turn out to be an awesome motor. Just wish ford improved the chassis the complement that engine.

Bingo. Most muscle car owners just don’t care about the road course experience and we saw that with huge Challenger & Charger sales, which is a platform that is inferior to the Alpha chassis in almost every way…but outsold the Camaro handily.

One thing the Mustang has is a crazy good aftermarket. You can literally upgrade every suspension piece on the car if handling is your jam.

Alpha price increase --> Dodge looks and marketing --> Dodge success

Maybe handling bifurcates to cheap and very expensive?

It’s not mid engine. Not even a true front mid engine where the entire engine block is at or behind the front axles (e.g. C7). Wish Ford had made that change. If I remember my Mustang engine placement correctly, the front of the block was about 4 inches in front of the axles but the massive heads were 6-7” ahead of the axles. I think my ZL1 is about 3.5” ahead of the axles and no massive head overhanging above, so slightly better.

The new Mustang GTD is awesome; I’m super stoked Ford partnered with Multi-magic to engineer and design a street legal race car.

800+ hp predator, yes please
CF body, yes
Magnesium wheels, yes
Titanium exhaust? Yes.
Transaxle? Yes.
Active aero and DRS? Yes.

That said, I think a ZL1 1LE with revised aero for more downforce and active aero with DRS and the ZR-1’s LT5 would be nearly if not just as quick around a track for 40% of the price. They wouldn’t even have to do all those other exotic materials because it’s already a much lighter car than the Mustang. We can wish.

Weight and no low end torque is the problem. The car desperately needs the 10 speed auto but that also adds another 50-60 lbs moving the weight scale up to 4000 lbs. That is why Ford is putting 315 wide tires on the dark horse making sure the car is not sliding around the turns, it is also assisting the inferior chassis.

$300k? Forget about the ZL1 1LE, you can get two C8 ZO6s for that price or even the upcoming zr1 or zora for less. The wide body kit looks sick on that stang though.

It's still only a Mustang, enough said. $300K... complete insanity.

Sounds like any other V8. The Gt350 did sound unique, I think it is still worth the money.

Here's the most recent review from the guys over at Throttle House:

https://youtu.be/2mq7gj1bHys

Both the dig and rolling drag races go as one would expect.

The time around the track was "Sooo, much better than the GT." but it still needs to be "wrestled with." as the steering feel still isn't as good as the Camaro's. The time it ended up with is properly fast, after a bit of "manhandling" of course.

Bonus lap-time from the Mach 1 included was nice to see.
