At some point I'll get to ORP in it! I'm slammed with work and pretty much will only be at The Ridge and Pacific until late summer. Ken |

A bit of an update while I wait to get back to the track later this month.....LT2 intake is on.
Overall, pretty easy to do, mainly thanks to all the threads on this site! I left out the sound insulation and the only hang up was the MAP expansion I bought, it didn't want to snap in on the harness side, even with a lot of pressure. Fired right up, no issues and no check engine light. Initial driving impression was interesting. At first, I thought something was wrong as there initial throttle was really soft, but as the car warmed up it seemed to improve. (I had the battery disconnected) I drove it about 10 miles up and down the RPM range and it for sure lost that Lt1 grunt in the 2-3k range, but the reward is that it pulls to redline very cleanly. I'l put a few more miles on it so the ECU can do any relearning It needs and the real test will be when I get to the track. Ken Last edited by khcoaching; 03-22-2022 at 11:46 PM. |

#7 Ridge Motorsports Park 3/31/22 – 4/1/22
With Chicane 1:52.76 WithOUT Chicane 1:45.68 Finally, back to the track with the Camaro! I’ve driven a bit this year already, but not with the Camaro as it wasn’t quite ready or the weather wasn’t up to where I wanted to lap it. (It’s still pretty cold here in WA, the high for both of these days was low/mid 50s) In keeping with the theme of this journal, I’ll list out the changes I made and go through each one, as while they seemed simple, they actually changed the car quite a bit. I drove the car 3 sessions the first day (chicane) and 2 sessions the second day. (no chicane) I also have a 3rd day scheduled to try the 18s out and will report on those separately. Changes – • Fresh fluids • Updated alignment with BMR rear toe arms - Alignment (-3.0/-2.25) • LT2 ported intake (still stock tune and TB) • Ferodo DS3.12 pads front and rear • Goodyear F1 3R 305/30/19 square First, general initial thoughts and then lap time comparisons between the previous personal bests to the new personal bests in GPS speed form: - The LT2 intake significantly changed the powerband. The engine lost that “LT1” mid-range punch, but revved dramatically freer. First impression was the car felt slower, but ultimately was faster and did exactly what it was supposed to do, all on the top end. (See data chart post below) - Ferodo 3.12s pads front and rear. OK….I thought the 1.11s were good, these were a big step up. Way more initial bite and I felt I was able to use less brake pressure for the same result, which the data supported. (See data chart post below) - Goodyear 3R tires….I have to say, Day 1, not impressed. They seemed equal to the standard 3S in grip (at first) and took a solid lap and a half to come in. I later found the issue Day 2 with running too high a hot pressure and when I adjusted down, they turned out pretty good, but still not as great as I had hoped for this combo lap time wise. (More detailed info below) Chicane – (I also have a Garmin video I’ll post) Blue is current PB vs Red older PB Non-Chicane – Blue is current PB vs Red older PB Last edited by khcoaching; 06-01-2022 at 12:17 AM. |

Here is a more in-depth summary of the changes I mentioned above:
LT2 intake – Pretty simple, the car was faster right where it was supposed to be faster, all on the top end. Top speed picked up 3mph and if you looked at my shift points, I am shifting slightly earlier as it revs out a bit quicker. Here is a GPS speed graph blown up in the top speed sections against my previous PB. LT2 intake RED Ferodo 3.12 Brakes Having run these on a client’s car, I knew how good they are, but man, they really are a big step up from the 1.11s. I can brake slightly later, from a higher speed and get this – do it with less brake pressure. See the graph below with brake pressure… Note – I’m not sure how much more I have left with the brakes as it. I did get in the ABS a few times and it wasn’t pretty. This may be a potential place I upgrade. 3.12 pads BLUE Goodyear 3R Tires – 305/30/19 square I’ve driven these on a few other cars and they have always been solid. But, in full disclosure, I’ve never really tried to haul serious ass with them. I had very high expectations for them and learned that they need to be pretty hot to work well and in my newfound experience, a pretty low pressure. Day 1 I started at 25psi cold and yeah, no joke sketch when cold and not scrubbed in. After a few slow laps to get them up to temp, I did about 6 hot laps and they came in at 38psi. I bled them down to 32 and went out again and set my PB for the chicane configuration, but not really pleased at the grip. It wasn’t the super hero tire I thought it would be. It ended up raining the rest of the day and I went out and did 8 laps in the rain with them, trying out the WET mode in the Track setting. Super fun! The fronts had great grip, the rears not so much, any throttle over half was instant wheelspin, including the front straight. Day 2 with no chicane. I set cold pressures at 25cold and went out late morning. Again, not great….the front didn’t bite well and the rear had little grip on exits, especially initial drive and I barely beat my PB. I came in and the pressure was 37 -38psi. I lowered them back down to 31 and went back out the next session and hey! There’s the grip I was looking for! I ended beating my previous by almost 1.4 seconds and I felt like I could finally seriously drive the car. Hot pressure was still a bit high, 35psi, but overall, much much better. I didn’t get a chance to do another session, but I think bleeding them back down to 31-32, I might improv my time a bit more, but probably not much. At the end of the day when everything was cold, I checked the pressures and they were are at 20psi, which may be close to what I start with for next time. Wear wise, even though it was only 4 sessions, they look pretty darn good. |

So it sounds like the 3Rs are a bit more finicky than the 3's but are certainly faster when you find their sweet spot.
Do you feel the 3.12s benefitted from the softer compounds? Would they be worth it if you were still running the 3s or other 200tw tires? I got my hands on some St43 pads and RS4s in 305 square but haven't had a chance to run either of them in good conditions. Nice cage!!!! |
