Use the Eforce...Luke!

Ordered my Edelbrock Eforce 2650 supercharger just now and am excited...at least I was until I found out that the 3 year warranty only applies if the SC is installed by a dealership or an SAE certified mechanic. I suspect that would cost a grand or more!

I searched their web page and couldn't find that stipulation anywhere. One of their big selling points is the ease of installation and that anyone with reasonable mechanic skills can install it in one day. If that's so, why does it take an SAE mechanic to do the install. Bad thing is, I was looking forward to installing it myself. I may just forfeit the warranty or find someone with the certification who could "help" me install it.

What do you all think?

If you haven't done one before just plan on a weekend of fun and drinking beer.

I installed mine with the help of this forum and a special thanks to laynlo15. I had done some mechanic work, but this was an awesome undertaking. If you want to do it yourself and you're a first timer with this depth of work, give yourself time to work slow methodically and ask questions. I read through the manual multiple times before I started and still had questions. If I could start another install, I'd do it right now.

Make sure you upgrade your fueling at the same time as the blower. No better time to do it.

Yep, instructions say 11 hours. I have almost memorized the install book already. I’m a pretty much experienced DIYer and won’t hesitate to dive into the install with a little help from a good friend who has a commercial quality shop at his residence with a lift and all. I want to install headers at some point to compliment the build but I don’t want the expense of a full blown dyno just yet.

JRE already lectured or better, schooled me on the need for making sure I’ve got a good fuel pressure source.

I hope you all are standing by with lots of advice on this project...I’m certainly going to need it.

This ^

Installed my Maggie in a leisurely weekend, working alone and taking my time. It was a fun install. Now that I've had mine on and off a few times, I could easily do one from scratch in 8 - 10 hours, but as Greg says, plan on a full weekend the first time.

Looky here!

Wow that was plenty fast shipping! I can’t wait to get started on the install which will most likely be next week.

If any one knows, I read somewhere that one step colder spark plugs are a good investment. What say you?

Update

One of the forum members asked how my install was going and I realized I dropped the ball by not posting progress. Anyway, here's how I responded:

At the moment, I am waiting on a few tools to arrive before I start. They cost right at $100 off of eBay. Like:

The proper Harmonic balancer puller specific to LS and LT V/8s
Harmonic balancer install tool specific to my engine
The OEM flywheel flex plate holder tool for LT1 engines
The fastener puller tool

I know there are some "work-around" ways to do some of the tasks, but I want everything to be by the book...lol.

I'm trying to locate a foot pound torque wrench that's good for 240 feet pounds of torque. I have an ordinary one that goes only to 150, so I'm trying to find one to borrow...I'm sure that won't be a problem. All of the tools should arrive between the 13th and 17th and then I will get started.

I have my second free oil service before I get started as well and I have 4 new tires sitting in my garage waiting to be installed...you can check my post on 1LE wheels and worn tires on the rear at less than 5K miles. You can't find a tire shop who will install the new tires because of the COVID 19 virus crap. My rears are so bad, I would really be afraid to drive it, especially with the new found power with the eForce installed.

Also, I had a Diablosport tune that I have to remove before I can start since the instructions require you to send Edelbrock the stock tune so they can update it and send it back to me. I want to drive the car after I uninstall the tune, to normalize everything before sending it to them. Maybe that's not a problem, but I want to be sure.

Once I start, I want everything perfectly ready so I don't have to run all over town trying to find the stuff I need.

I had a few questions for Edelbrock before I begin as well and got hold of them on Thursday. One was the fact that I have the GM performance CAI on my car and the instructions show pictures of the eForce installed only with the basic CAI on the car and never mention the performance CAI. I didn't know if it would hook up correctly. Edelbrock said that if it's an OEM part it will work, which mine is. We'll see.

The other is the box that the SC came in has a part number sticky on it with 15595 on it and for Camaro LT1 6.2 engine noted. Then it says for manual transmission. I asked Edelbrock about that as well since my car is the 8 speed auto. They told me not to worry that I had the proper kit. Again, we'll see.

So, next week, I should have everything ready to get this thing installed. My goal was to have it installed before CamaroFest and or the Holley LS Fest but the virus stuff may ruin those events.

Thanks for your post on my Eforce thread. When I first saw your post, I didn't realize it was a video. Great looking car and it looks like it runs perfectly. If I had paid attention, your video would have answered the question I had about the GM Performance CAI and compatibility with the kit. It all looks amazingly like OEM! Since you've had it on for a while, what are your thoughts on the kit?
