Tire choice moving forward?

My stock Goodyears on our ZL1-1LE are getting close to the end of their life and I think they're great...very stable and sticky.

Question, The new tires will never see track time, or temperatures below 50 degrees, so what would you replace them with? Buy the stockers over again? Or??

I purchased a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S for street duties so taht I could relegate my 3Rs to the track. The 3Rs are a terrible street tire as it was nearly impossible to get them up to a temp where they had any kind of grip on the street. Driving season is already over in Chicagoland so I won't have any feedback on the 4Ss until probably April of next year but other members have spoken highly of them as a street tire.

Thank you

When you get these up to the proper temp, you'll be blown away by the grip Akirasoft. I have no idea how these tires qualify as street legal.

I run the Michelin PS4S tires on my ZLE. Depending on the road surface I can easily slide the back end passing cars in 4th gear. Even at times there is very little throttle and the slide all over but they are way better in the rain than the 3Rs. Way way better. I like the Michelin’s but can’t wait to use the 3Rs on a track.

Maybe check these out. They are the Continental Max Performance summer tire. I have had them on other cars, but not one as powerful as my ZL1. I did like them on my other vehicles, the most powerful one having 460 HP and had no trouble. They are good in the rain too.

I've got a set of MP4S waiting to go on in May (April if I'm lucky weather wise) next year. Probably going to do a three set rotation like I had with my M3/4. Track set, summer set and cold weather one.

I agree with the Continentals. I have them on my 02 SS and its a great all year tire despite it being called a summer tire. Amazing handling wet or dry. Best tire i have ever had on any of my camaros. My friend put them on 650rwhp C6 Z06 and can actually get the power the pavement now.

The MP4S is an excellent street tire. Ride is still firm, handling off track is better IMO because it gets to grip temp easier and more forgiving on uneven surfaces, much less nerve racking in the rain.

I'm going to miss these stock tires, mother of god do they grip. This car doesn't see rain, so that isn't much of a concern. The 50 degree temps I've driven in were somewhat entertaining though!

So...
6 for the MP4S
2 for the Conti's

I did the MP4S also when my SC3R wore out. Heck I even did a track day in the Michelins. I don't go enough yet to warrant an extra set of wheel and tires so these will perform double duty until that time.

The MP4S are still sketch at 50deg IMO so be careful, but yeah it's a much better all around tire for the street.

I've done 5 track days (across two sets of tires) with the 3Rs and I love them on the track

I did not love them the few times I got caught in rain. I had to pull off the highway and wait out the rain.
