What about the review from the gentleman stating there is no way to install these without removing the diffuser? Or is it he just went about it entirely wrong?

It can be done without removing the diffuser, but it might be a pain in the butt. I installed the Wildhammer reflectors yesterday in my apartment parking garage, without lifting or removing the diffuser - probably took me about 30-45 minutes total. The access point for the screws are skinny rectangular slots on the backside of the diffuser, right below some metal.
Make sure you have a short skinny screwdriver, preferably magnetized. Difficulty may be different depending on your exhaust - I have Borla ATAK (NPP) and was able to get access to the screw fairly easily - the trouble for me was getting the right angle, and enough leverage to turn the screwdriver without stripping the head. Removing the two bolts on the bottom of the diffuser can help it giving you slightly more access to the screw by bending it down slightly. There are a few videos on youtube on how to do it. I would post links, but the videos are all for the Wildhammer versions and I don't want to put that in Phastek's thread |

Are these a good appearance match for the factory blacked-out brake & tail lights?

I'll give these a try and report back with fitment and installation difficulty on a stock 2SS. Already have smoked side markers, OEM dark tails and 3rd brake light.

You can install the reflectors with out removing the diffuser, its a tight fit but possible. Just above the inner tip there is the screw that holds the factory one in place. Its a phillips screw that can be reached with a long screw driver. We are working on an install video. Quote:

Here is an install video. It's not for the HERO brand but same exact process. (disclaimer: not me in the video)
