Yeah, I've heard it when referring to a Denali as an upscale version of its Chevy counterpart.

Not quite the same thing. I’m not surprised that most people see the GMC products as upscale versions of Chevy products because....well...that’s exactly what they are. But I have never heard the “General Motors version of the Chevy”. GMC version of the Chevy? All day everyday. General Motors version of the Chevy? I’m sure someone somewhere, but it has to be very rare. Like people going to Lincoln dealers asking if they can order it with a Northstar. It has happened and was hilarious when it did, but pretty rare.

True, I mean hell I refer to the GMC products as "the GMC version of the (insert Chevrolet here).

But "the General Motors version?" That doesn't even make sense.

I used 'General Motors' for clarity in the context of how GM (sans C) was referenced in the conversations. It's really not difficult, but we'll all believe what we wish to believe & move on.

We'll agree to disagree there. My good friend worked at a local Pontiac/Buick/GMC dealership for several years before the recession & I assure you people knew it was related to GM. Also, I can't count how many times over the years I've heard people refer to GMC models as the "General Motors version of the Chevy".
Wouldn't that require them to not know that Chevrolet is a part of GM?

Not at all. On the contrary, it ties the two together. Similar to Buick models being upscale versions of Chevrolet models & Cadillac models being upscale versions of Buick models.

I have worked under a GMC and Chevrolet dealer. We consider GMC just like Chevrolet, a brand under the GM company.

Still think calling a FWD grocery getter Blazer is a poor decision but hey, I’m just some internet guy. What do I know?

For 99.99999% of driving that anyone would be doing with it, it will not make one lick of difference whether the new Blazer is a FWD based crossover or a RWD based SUV. Most people don't even know what those words mean, let alone the relative advantages & weaknesses of the different vehicle configurations. And of the ones that do, hardly any actually do anything that requires the capability of a body on frame SUV.

I had a seize tag order on a Mercedes C-class one night, which meant the car was getting towed. The owner insisted the tow truck driver needed to hook up the car from the front as it was FWD.
