Allocation. How do you know?
I'm now using 3 dealerships for allocation purposes. My build is submitted at the 1st dealership. The 2nd and 3rd dealership told me they would call me if allocation opens up. If any one of these 3 dealers calls, and tells me they have allocation, outside of their word, how do I know that to be true? Do they provide proof that GM gave them allocation and will be using that on my build?

If the order doesn't get picked up by GM within a few days of placing the order/deposit at the dealership, something would be fishy. You'd know pretty quickly.

That's not entirely true, it also depends on how many people are waiting for allocations ahead of you. The dealership I placed the order at is a very high volume dealer and I was like #78 in line waiting for allocation but it does go by somewhat quick but still takes a few months to get your allocation at that rate

If they say that they have an allocation for your car it should move within 2-5 days from 1100 to 2000(ish) meaning accepted. Dealers are all over the place on this subject though it's like everyone of them operates a little differently in how they talk on this subject. I wouldn't give them any money without an order number on it, by experience, even if it sits at 1100 as happened to me for many months.
Taking a deposit and not placing the order and waiting til they get an allocation to place the order I think that that's not quite right. Too my order number and sheet had a "priority" on it, at one -time it was 15 and that meant how many ZL1's the dealer had waiting allocations. |

Just like all the build status codes, you're not supposed to know. The sharing of knowledge online is one thing, but all the allocation information and build/status codes are all internal GM information that you are not supposed to know. What your dealer tells you is basically what you will get. If they lie to you about allocations for cars, then you'll find out the hard way 12-16 weeks later when no car shows up. This is the hard truth, but its the truth.

Dealers across OEMs have always shared the allocation / production number for my orders as soon as its available. In fact, several OEMs have dedicated systems so that customers can track their order status. |
