Killerchiller Install and results

Hey everyone. So I wanna post about my killerchiller Install.I know mostly everyone say's to use FI or AI interchillers and that killer chiller system stinks. I got a good deal on the interchiller, electronic race valve and electronic HE bypass valve all for under a grand. I am not a hardcore racer so I took a shot at it. Besides the price I noticed the killerchiller is smaller than the other brands and that was actually a selling point for me because I would be able to hide it better. I know the FI chiller can get the coolant temps much lower than the killer chiller but I have seen a FI Install and it is massive with hoses . all over the place.

Here are some pictures of my install. I even had enough room to add a push fan to the front radiator to help with cooling while sitting at a light. In my last picture with the grill back on you don't notice anything.I also added a 3 gallon trunk tank to maintain the temps.

Now for the data and results. I installed an online thermostat on the pre and post intercooler hose. I also have a gauge and hptuners to monitor iat2 and mat temps.
On a 70-80 degree day my pre intercooler fluid temps range from 35 to 40 with race mode enabled and 42-50 with cabin air on. The cabin air while cruising was 48 degrees. On a 95 degree day my fluid was from 40 to 46 on race mode and 50-58 with cabin air on and about 58 degree air temps.

My mat temps would stay around 105 (timing gets pulled at 133) after a few hard pulls the max my mat got was 120 on a hot humid 90 degree day.

Nice write up and install! I've been very curious about how much one of these chiller systems help at the strip.

Was there room to mount the front reservoir without cutting the bumper brace or did you just do that for concealment?

I didn't cut the brace(crash structure) all I cut was the foam and plastic. The resivoir you mentioned is the actual chiller.

Question maybe I missed it..

Did you use the r12 or stay with stock Freon?

Ya my tuner said same thing get the Australian setup.. but 950 for the race setup and HE bypass is to hard to pass on.

I wish you would of posted pics of the relocation of trunk modules Im sure its easy just wanted to see..

Also I thought the race kit the condenser or whatever they call it is like 18 inches..

thanks.

My zl1 takes the new 1234yf but it is compatible with 134A so I used the 134a because it's way cheaper and gets cooler. R12 doesn't not work with the 1234yf factory setup. When I say race mode I mean shutting off cabin air. I have the standard 9" model. I know Joe at killerchiller makes an 18" model but I wasn't sure it would fit where I wanted it it. Also note that all my temp reading are with the Heat exchanger bypassed. I only left it on for an emergency if the AC ever failed. There are instructions posted on killerchillers website for the Camaro that was made by a customer but I did not use those instructions because I used a cabin off valve(race mode) and he exchanger valve that the instructions didn't have. He also used a elderbrocm supercharger so hose routing was different and lastly I didn't want to mount the chiller where he mounted it,I wanted to hide it behind the bumper.

I want to mention that is anyone wants to know how much 1234yf or 134a to use it is about 24 ounces 2 cans. the factory charge without the chiller is 19.5 ounces.

Ah ok thanks..

Ya I was told race setup not to do the drag unless you go to the track.. so that makes sense the longer 18 inch and the water 3 way bypass manually to not use the heat exchanger in summer but for winter use the exchanger and no ac.

Yes I don't use the HE in the summer because it wants to warm the cool fluid temps back to ambient. In the winter I can either turn on the HE and or put my defroster on at all times. Here is a picture of the trunk. I mounted the computer to the frame and I mounted the fuse box behind the battery. It is very simple.

I drive with the windows down sunroof open so I leave it on race mode 90% of the time unless I'm going for a long cruise.
