GPI VVT Camshafts

I have been getting a lot of pms with questions about our cams, so I figure I'd post up some basic info on them.

VVT grinds:
SS1, Power range idle to 6500
SS2, Power range 2000 to 6700 (works with stock converter or 2800+ converter)
SS3 Power range 3000 to 6800+ (3200+ converter required)
SS4 Power range 4000 to 7000+ (3600 minimum converter, best with 4000+) (flycutting required)

All these cams can be altered for different specific setups and also for forced induction, and/or nitrous applications.

For cam selection, just message me with your setup and goals, what kind of idle you are looking for and we can go from there!

How much difference is there between the SS3 and SS4? Also where does your old Mast cam fall in comparison to these?

The mast is slightly larger in duration than the 3. The 4 is very aggressive. Personally, the 3 may be lesser in duration than the mast ss but it will make more tq and rival it's hp.

As far as idle goes, if you want a rough idle it would mean increasing duration correct? Or overlap? I forget. Does that have a negative effect anywhere else? Like are you sacrificing anything to get that lope?

I'd really like to start sourcing parts for a cam swap.

The lobe separation will change idle characteristics, and a tighter lsa (111 vs a 114) will lope more aggressively. But with that, overlap increases and drive-ability can decrease some on larger cam profiles. BUT, a lot of that falls on the hands of the person calibrating the car, as I have done several cammed ls setups, from 108 and up on lsa. You make a tight lsa drive good, but it is more work, and the rest of the setup needs to be right.
Obviously changing duration is going to have some effect as well but when someone is looking for a specific idle and or power range, it isn't going to just come down to one thing like lsa, or duration....its the profile as a whole.

Got my order in for a turbo stock converter cam. Going to install and tune before building TT set-up.
Thanks Rhino!
